The moonlight glistened off the ocean waves. It was beautiful, but you closed your eyes to focus on the sound. You shifted your hands in the sand. It wasn't hot anymore and was actually quite refreshing to bury your hands in. You knew that sitting directly on the beach would cover you in sand but you didn't really care. You listened carefully to the gentle rush of the waves against the shoreline. You imagined the ocean taking away all of your worries.

You had just moved to Japan and it caused you much stress and anxiety. Your father had passed recently due to an accident at sea. The entire crew was unharmed except for him. His body was never found, completely engulfed within the water. Without your father's income your mother was struggling, so you moved in with your grandparents. You were going to a new school tomorrow, Iwatobi High.

Going to a school was scary for you. You were pretty introverted, which made it difficult to make friends. Often you came off as awkward, or uninterested, but really you were just shy. You were never very good at getting people to like you. Of course you didn't mind only having a few close friends, you just struggled to make them.

Unlike you completely, were your younger siblings. Only a year younger, twins boy and girl, Tsukiko and Satsuki. They both had chocolate brown hair and freckles across their face. Satsuki's hair was an out grown bob cut with bangs which curled a bit at the end, and her face was much rounder than Tsukiko's. Her eyes were a gorgeous hazel. Her smile was beautiful, as was her laugh. She was always care free and easygoing. She loved to tease your and your brother, and was always the life of a party. Your father's death had made her a little less enthusiastic for a few months, but the new move to Japan livened her up. She knew your father wouldn't had liked it if she lost her joyous personality.

Tsukiko on the other hand was still dealing with the loss of your father. He was overly protective of you and Satsuki. He had always been a little more cautious than the two of you, but recently it's been excessive. You knew he was only trying to cope, and was terrified of losing his sisters as well. He had become stoic for months, longer than your sister. Satsuki has loosened him up though. They were so different from each other that they evened out perfectly.

You heard a noise from up behind you on the street and your heart began to pound. You whipped your torso around and immediately recognized Tsukiko's strong figure and short wavy hair on top of his head. You should have known he would have come find you.
"What are you doing, going off in an unknown town by yourself, especially at night? And to the ocean, really? What if you drowned?" He began to scold you, hands leaving his pockets and gesturing around. As he got closer, the moonlight lit up his face. His dark brown eyes which were once so kind and gentle, now appeared fierce and cold. There were dark circles and bags underneath.
"I was only sitting on the beach."
"No point arguing with him, (Y/N). I already tried that." Satsuki hopped down the slope leading from the street down to the beach. As the moon hit her face, you could see her eyes a bit glossy, and her nose and cheeks slightly pink.
"He's got a stick up his ass tonight, he's worse than usual." She said.
"You're both so careless." Tsukiko huffed.

He thrusted his hands back into his pockets and began towards the small hill that lead to the sidewalk. Satsuki rolled her eyes and picked up a handful of sand which she chucked it at him. Most of it missed but some of it fell in his hair and dusted his shoulders.
"That's for being a prick." She said simply. He ignored her and continued walking up the small hill leading to the road above. The two of you followed him. Before he reached the grass he turned around and kicked a bit of sand at Satsuki. She covered her face and made a noise. Once all of you reached the side walk he turned around and began walking backwards so he could talk easier.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you. Both of you." He said.
"It doesn't feel like you're sorry." Satsuki replied, shimmying her hand through her sand filled hair.
"Payback sucks doesn't it?"  He shook his head like a dog, flinging more sand on to both of you, and then turned back around and kept walking.

Before the ocean was out of sight you took one last glance at it. You loved watching the sea. At certain times of the day it's colour resembled the aquamarine on your necklace. Your hands fidgeted with it now, the last gift from your father. He had given it to you only a few days before he got on the ship that killed him. It was silver with a medium gemstone, completely untouched. The colour was stunning, a mix of deep pure blues, and a bit of light paler blue. It was raw and natural. It's rough edges felt nice in your fingertips.

You stood at your locker, waiting for the twins to arrive. It was after school now and everything had gone very well. It was a bit odd jumping into a new school year already a month in, but other than that everything went smooth. You met a very kind girl in your math class. She had pretty burgundy coloured hair and eyes to match. She was a bit hyper when talking to you, especially about the swim team she managed. You hoped she would sit with you at lunch tomorrow.

"Hey (Y/N)," Satsuki called. You looked up from playing games on your phone to see your brother and sister half way down the hall. You closed your locker and headed towards them.
"Sorry it took us so long to come, someone was just wondering around the halls." Tsukiko said, shooting a look towards Satsuki.
"Yeah, it took me forever to find him." She joked.
"Anyways (Y/N), how was your first day?" Tsukiko asked.

You told them all about your day as you walked home. Satsuki had joined the basketball team, and Tsukiko the swimming team. This sparked your interest.
"The girl I met today, she's the manager for your swimming team!" You said excitedly.
"That's awesome! Hopefully that means you're alright to wait for me tomorrow after school. We have a meeting." He said.
You nodded your head. "Satsuki, are you okay with waiting?"
"Mm I guess. You have any hot teammates?"
"You're so weird, I can't even tell if you're joking or not."

The twins continued to tease and bicker with each other. It happened so often, it would be unusual if they didn't, so you ignored it and thought about your new life here. The people were kind and the town itself was beautiful. To get home you had to walk by the ocean. The air was filled with the salty scent of the sea. It was so beautiful, and you could see the bits of turquoise colour that you loved so much.

Your hand was already holding your necklace and your eyes had welled up. Your dad would be so happy that you were alright. You blinked and let a few tears trickle down your face. The twins were too engaged in a silly argument to notice. The warm sun cast a soothing warmth on the three of you. In this meaningless moment, you felt peace and happiness.
