(3:30AM, LA)
I'm staring at the stars, Riley lying on my chest. "Baby, do you think that after we die, our souls still get to be together?" She says. I smile, ruffling her hair. "Of course. I will find you in every lifetime." I answer. Riley grins, sitting up and kissing me. My hands immediately lose themselves in her hair, soft and gentle. Riley blushes, pulling away. She lies back down, her hand finding mine. Our fingers interlock and she smiles harder, her eyes dancing. "I like to think that the stars are angels." She says. I look up, watching them glint and shine brightly. In that moment, I swear I see them shine brighter, but only for a few seconds.
Riley turns to look at me again. "What's on your mind?" She asks. I look at her. "You. It's always been you, baby." I answer honestly. She nods. "I think about you a lot. Maybe we're twin flames." She says. I squeeze her hand gently, and she does it in return. Mom walks onto the roof.
"Guys, you've been out here for 3 hours! I know school is out for the summer, but dang!" She laughs, two cups of hot cocoa in her hand. Me and Riley sit up, taking them and thanking her. Mom smiles. "I used to do this with your father when we were younger. We used to wish on the stars and sometimes they'd happen." She tells us, sitting down next to us. Riley's eyes shine. "Really, Tiff?" She asks. Mom nods. "I loved it. Mama used to get mad because we'd fall asleep on her roof and catch a fever. But we never cared. In our minds it was definitely worth it." I laugh. "Sounds like Mom was quite the trouble maker, hmm?" I muse. Mom taps my arm, laughing. "I was not! I just loved the stars. They were beautiful! Especially back home." She says. We chat for a little longer before Mom tells us to come inside.
Me and Riley climb into bed, cuddling under the covers. "You'd be my wish." Riley says, falling asleep. I smile, kissing her forehead.
"Same, baby. Same."
