Reassuring Ruby that nothing bad was going to happen was hard. She seemed determined to make amends to the entire situation. Seeing her so determined, I let her do whatever she wants. Besides, if I can get out of this whole situation, it'll be great. With such happy thoughts on my mind, I made my way to the cafeteria while Ruby turned the opposite way to talk to Mrs. Lindsay.

Reaching the cafeteria, I immediately spotted Vanessa at our usual table, waiting for me and Ruby. She looked up at me as I approached the table. She seemed surprised to see me alone without Ruby- I usually came to lunch with the latter seeing how we had the same previous classes.

"Where's Ruby?" she enquired.

"She went to talk to Mrs. Lindsay," I said, sitting down.

"Mrs. Lindsay? What for?"

"She wanted to convince her to not put me and Tyler as partners."

"Oh right," Vanessa exclaimed, "I heard about that. So you and Tyler partners, huh?" She waggled her eyebrows suggestively.

"Shut up," I muttered, feeling my cheeks getting red. Vanessa simply laughed me before leaning back.

"So do you think she'll succeed?" she asked me.

I looked up at her, "Yeah, Mrs. Lindsay adores her. She's bound to say yes," I told her confidently.

"Wrong," said a new voice miserably.

We both looked up from each other to see Ruby sitting down next to Vanessa.

"She told me to get my butt out of her class, and that she has better things to worry about. I suppose she gets really grumpy when she doesn't have food in her system," she informed us.

Vanessa and I giggled a little before bursting out into laughter.

"I told you to drop it," I teased Ruby. She simply glared, while Vanessa was still laughing (very loudly might I add). My laughter ceased a bit when I remembered how emotionless Vanessa looked this morning.

"Hey Vanessa," I said when she finally stopped laughing.

"Yeah?" she asked me smiling.

"Your moods are the 8th wonder of the world. Just this morning, you were all sad and emotionless. How did the transformation come about?" I asked her.

"Well, I took your advice to not over think anything. So, I just forgot about my problems and focused on having fun," she smiled.

"You're not telling us something," said Ruby suddenly.

"I was thinking the same thing," I said narrowing my eyes. Vanessa hesitated before opening her mouth to say whatever was on her mind.

"Thomas asked me out again!" she blurted out.

"WHAT?" Ruby yelled standing up. I pulled her down before hissing at her to be quieter.

"It's strange that Thomas asked you out, seeing how there is a grave reason behind your break up with him," I said calmly before looking up at her, "But you did say no, right?"

Avoiding our eyes, Vanessa suddenly eyed a scratch on our table with a fiery intensity.

"Well?" asked Ruby tapping her foot impatiently.

"I said yes," she murmured, still avoiding our eyes.

"WHAT?" yelled Ruby again- and standing up again. I sighed and pulled her down before looking at Vanessa.

"Why on Earth would you say yes to such an asshole?" I asked exasperatedly.

"Well, he just seemed so sorry, and so sweet. He even gave me a rose," she looked back up at us eagerly, "He was so kind, and told me-"
