"Jordan, please," you whispered to yourself. It was the eleventh time you'd tried to call him, and the eleventh time that you'd had to hang up because you didn't have time to leave him a message. You shot him a quick text as you threw on your shoes.
I'm coming to find you.
This whole predicament started when your friend Niomi told you a rumor that was going around. The two of you were sitting at lunch, talking about stuff going on in your lives when she told you that people were saying Jordan had a crush on you. You shook it off - there was no way.
You had mentioned it to Jordan on the bus ride home, and he looked kind of uncomfortable, not denying it.
"What's the matter?" you asked him as the two of you stepped off of the bus.
"Nothing," he responded immediately. "I, uh, I can't come over today. I have a thing I have to do with my mom." And he ran off without another word. You went home and thought really hard, realizing that you'd been oblivious as hell. He had a major crush on you. Like, an unbelievably obvious crush on you.
And now you were running around your neighborhood, going to all of the places you'd think he'd be, but not finding him anywhere. You didn't realize how long you'd been out until you checked your phone because of a text. Two hours searching for that child and not a single sign of him. Even worse, it looked as though it were about to rain, and you were quite a distance from your house without a hoodie.
You began to walk home, starting to run as you felt rain drops begin to fall from the darkening sky. You were drenched and freezing within ten minutes, and you got under a random bus stop awning and sat on the bench. You shivered, regretting leaving your hoodie behind. You stayed as far over as you could, one other person with their hood up on the other side of the bench.
"You almost never leave your house without a hoodie," said the person. It was Jordan, you realized, and he looked over at you. You stared over at him with anger.
"Where the fuck have you been?" you asked angrily. "I've been looking for you for two hours!"
"Sorry, I just...didn't feel like hanging out today."
"Why didn't you just tell me that?" you asked, scooting closer to him on the bench. He moved over the rest of the way, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into a hug. You welcomed the warmth, getting as close as you could to him without being weird.
"You're soaked," he remarked, backing up and taking off his hoodie. He put it around your shoulders.
"No, I'll be fine without it," you said, trying to hand it back to him. He wouldn't take it though, managing to get your arms through the sleeves and zipping it up, putting the hood up. It was much too big for you, reaching all the way down to about mid thigh. The sleeves were much too long and the hood almost covered your eyes. You pouted, crossing your arms over your chest.
"Come on, it looks like the rain is slowing down a bit," he stated. He grabbed your hand and the two of you started to run. The rain started to pour down faster than before, to the point where you both had to stop to catch your breath, already too soaked to care whether you'd be getting wet.
You leaned against a tall fence to catch your breath, closing your eyes to focus on evening out your breathing. When you opened them back up, Jordan was standing in front of you, his hair plastered down to his face, his clothes sticking to his body, and his lips tinted blue from the cold and you thought, why the fuck haven't you realized how completely and utterly perfect he is?
He moved closer to you, putting an arm up onto the fence by your head, the other arm going around your waist. Your hands went up to his neck, bringing his lips down until they were pressed firmly against yours. You felt as though the entire world had stopped; the sound of the rain pounding against the cement turned into a dull beat, the smell of water fresh against the grass turned into the scent of his cologne and only that, and the dull taste of your gum (which you spit out not even ten minutes ago) was made into the sweet taste of honey that graced his lips. You were at peace with the world and everything in it, and you were as happy as ever.
You felt your heart tighten as he pulled away, smiling at you fondly, green eyes twinkling. You bit your lip and smiled as the rain slowed down and the clouds broke, allowing a single ray of sun to shine down on the two of you.
"I really love the rain," you concluded. His smile widened, and he brought his lips to yours again.
