Darkness.
You felt nothing at all, yet you felt everything all at once. You could see a bright light in front of you, illuminating your bloody arms and baggy clothes. You walked towards the light, feeling something inside you pull you towards it. You didn't know why, but it enticed you.
With every step closer, it seemed like it just kept getting farther away. You began sprinting towards it, seeming to gain on it little by little.
Arms sprung from behind you, wrapping around your arms and legs and everywhere in between. They were decaying and covered in maggots, pulling you down towards the ground below you. It was red and smelled strongly of iron, making your stomach churn at the sight. You tried to scream, but no noise came out. You thrashed and kicked and elbowed and shook but to no avail. The arms had iron grips. They pulled you down into the pool of red.
You fell into dead white space. You were floating as though it were water, and breathing as though it were air. There was a green orb to your right and a red one to your left. You didn't know what they meant, but you knew you had to choose, and fast. The tips of your toes were turning black, moving up your legs at a fast pacing. You reached for the green, only for it to fly just out of reach. You floated towards it, faster and faster as it moved away. It was barely out of your reach, the black discoloration moving towards your finger tips. Just a little further...
Awake. You were awake and alive, barely able to comprehend what had just happened. You could barely move, your body feeling stiff. You had bandages wrapped all around your arms, and people surrounding you in all corners of the white room that you were in. It appeared that you were in the hospital, with asleep visitors all around you.
Alex and Johnnie were snoozing in the corner, sharing a chair. Shannon and Jeydon were passed out a few feet away from them on the floor, playing cards slipping out of their hands. Bryan was asleep to your left, his hand gripping yours, and Jordan was asleep beside him.
Kyle walked in with a Jello cup and a spoon, smiling when he saw you awake.
"Hey there, Y/N," he said quietly, as not to wake the others. He sat down to your right. "How're you feeling?"
"How did I get here?" you asked, meeting his eyes. He looked away immediately.
"I, uh...it's kind of a long story." You squeezed Bryan's hand unconsciously.
"I've got time." Kyle sighed, opening the Jello and taking a bite.
"Okay. Well, I had come over to give Shannon back her camera. I had broken my lens and I didn't have the cash to buy a new one so I borrowed hers. I had knocked on the door, but nobody answered. I tried to open the door, but it was locked so I tried the back door, but that was locked too. I knew that the window in her room was always unlocked so I went in through there and put the camera on her desk. I was about to leave but I heard a noise from the bathroom so I went in and...uh...found you. Called 911, and I got you here. Rode in an ambulance, followed you as far as I could but couldn't go past the doors for surgery."
"...oh...thank you, I guess."
"It's no biggie...I just...I just want to know, if you're willing to answer...why? What would make you want to do that?"
"I...I just..." Your throat closed up, and you felt tears rising to your eyes. You tried desperately to blink them away, not wanting any of them to wake up to you crying. "I couldn't handle the break up. I had spent five years of my life loving him to death and he just...left like it was nothing. I couldn't handle it. He's my everything and I just couldn't handle him leaving. I needed him."
"Y/N, I would've been there for you had you said something. You're one of my best friends. I haven't left the hospital since we got here yesterday. Why didn't you say something?"
"You wouldn't have understood. And besides, I didn't want to throw my problems at you."
"You wouldn't have been throwing your problems at me, you would've been confiding in me."
"Okay, I'll remember that. Thank you again."
"Like I said, no problem." Bryan stirred next to you, clutching your hand as he moved closer. You smiled, squeezing his hand back. "What's gonna happened now?"
"I'm gonna make things better," you responded. "That includes myself. I'm going to work towards being a better person. Not just for me, but for you and Bryan and everyone else." He was silent for a moment, then he smiled, looking up and meeting your eyes.
"I'm glad."
