You were terrified. You were sitting on the couch, waiting for your parents to come home from a simple shopping trip, one that should've taken them only a half hour. They've been gone for a whole two hours, though, and you were getting a bit worried. You had started pacing through the hallway, your best friend Kyle and his boyfriend Johnnie keeping you company with a phone call. They were telling you that everything was okay and that you should calm down for at least the twentieth time when the doorbell rang.
"There's someone at the door," you said into the phone. "I've got to go."
"Okay," Kyle said. "But call me back. Johnnie is about to leave and I don't want to be all alone."
"Okay. Bye." You hung up the phone without a response, tossing the device onto your couch and opening the front door. A policeman stood with the most grim of faces, one that made you expect the worst.
"Can I help you?" You asked, your voice cracking and tears springing to your eyes.
"Yes," he said. "My name is Officer Gawn, I'm here on behalf of a car wreck that happened a few blocks away from here."
"Was it my parents?" you asked, a tear escaping your eye. "Is that why they still aren't back?" He nodded his head, and more tears spilled onto your cheeks.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but they died on impact. We'll be in contact soon. And I suggest calling a family member or friend to stay with for a little while." You nodded, closing the door as the officer began to walk away. You didn't know what to do other than sit down and just...cry. And you did exactly that. Tears fell down your face like waterfalls, and your breathing came in sharp, ragged breaths. You were dimly aware of your phone ringing, and then about ten minutes later, the doorbell rang. You stood up from your spot in the corner, walking shakily towards the door as the person rang the doorbell again, knocking as well.
You opened it slightly, looking up at the worried looking Kyle with tear stained cheeks. He pushed open the door and wrapped his arms around you, one arm around your waist and one cradling your head. You began to sob into his chest, just barely aware of the two of you sinking to your knees and him shutting the door. The two of you sat in that position for about an hour, until you finally calmed down, pulling away from your best friend.
"Thank you for coming over," you said, your voice raspy from crying.
"What's wrong?" He asked. "You didn't answer your phone when I tried to call you. My mom told me she was walking the dog when she heard a car crash. She said that one of the cars looked like your parents', but she didn't tell me until after you hung up."
"It was my parents' car, yes. They...they're dead."
"Oh my god, Y/N," he pulled you into another hug. When he pulled away, he removed his beanie and placed it on your head. "This beanie is my favorite. I want you to keep it and wear it whenever you're feeling sad or scared. Wear it whenever you want to feel safe and remember that I am always there for you. Now, I'm staying over here tonight. I'm going to call my mom and have her drop off my overnight bag. Okay?" You nodded your head, adjusting the beanie on your head.

You readjusted your beanie as your parents' caskets were lowered into the ground, Kyle and Johnnie holding your hands. You felt tears falling down your cheeks and made no movement to wipe them away. You were more accepting of your mother and father's deaths, and you hadn't cried about it for nearly a week. You needed to let the tears fall or else they'd just bottle up inside of you, exploding at just the wrong thing.
You went with Kyle back to his place after the funeral, staying with him instead of a family member until you were legally able to live on your own. Johnnie wanted to come with you guys, but he was grounded and had to go home.
You guys sat on Kyle's bed, your shoes kicked off by the door, and hugged. He allowed you to rest your head of his shoulder, not caring as you soaked the fabric of his shirt in your tears. You felt like you could cry forever, but you also knew that this would be a thing of the past soon enough, that this will just be an experience to help you later in life. You just had to wait.
"Do you wanna go to sleep now?" Kyle asked gently, noticing you nodding off with your head on his shoulder. You nodded, grabbing a tank top and a pair of pajama bottoms and going into his bathroom. You changed quickly, reentering his room and lying down next to him in his bed.
"Goodnight, Y/N," he said softly.
"Goodnight," you replied, your voice barely above a whisper.

You prepared for your first job interview. You kicked Johnnie and Kyle out of the bathroom so that you could straighten your hair and get dressed. You knew that they probably weren't "doing their hair" like they said they were, so you figured you'd be doing yourself the favor of not having to clean the bathroom later that day.
You adjusted your beanie slightly, smiling sadly at the memory of how you got it. You rushed out the door and finished getting ready, heading straight out to your car and getting in the driver seat. You stuck the keys in the ignition and stopped in your tracks, smiling slightly to yourself. You took a deep breath, exhaling slowly.
"Alright, Y/N," you said to yourself. "Let's do this. And you drove off to your first job interview, your lucky charm resting right on top of your head like it always should.

Done. Wow, this is, like, the third oneshot I've finished writing today. I'm super happy I'm finally uploading this, I've had it in my drafts since November, I think. It's long overdue.I hope you guys enjoyed this. I have more that I'm finishing today and I have some that I'll be finishing up later today and tomorrow.
Also, would any of you like me to do AUs of any sorts? I wouldn't mind, AUs are fun to write. It expands the possibilities of my oneshots. If so, do tell. I'm open to any and all ideas.
Thanks lovelies!
Stay safe, stay strong, and stay beautiful my Lil bitchez.
Yours Truly,
Andromeda Leigh Barnett
