School had always been hard for you. It wasn't the classes, those were easy. You had problems with bullying. It didn't help that you wore glasses, got straight A's, wore geeky T-shirts, and were not that fit.
The only reason you made it through high school was your closest friend, Tadashi. He had always helped you out and stood up for you. You were practically attached at the hip. Where one was found, the other was never far behind.
When you were apart, you spent your time learning to program and hack into computers. You showed Tadashi what you'd done and he helped you pull apart and reassemble your computer. Together, you were a great team.
After high school, you were accepted at different colleges. Reluctant, you said your goodbyes and made promises to keep in touch. However, life soon got too busy. You had no time to call Tadashi and you rarely got calls from him.
A year passes without any word from Tadashi. You exchanged your glasses for contacts and got a gym membership. You almost didn't recognize yourself in the mirror.
Soon, you transferred to SFIT, knowing it was where Tadashi had gone. You anxiously awaited the day you would get to see your closest friend again.
When it finally came, you were ecstatic. When you saw him, he looked exactly as you remembered him. "Tadashi!"
He turned towards you. He looked at you and frowned. "Who are you?"
"Tadashi, it's me, (y/n)." You saw a light go on in his head.
"(y/n), you look so different." You enveloped him in a hug that he quickly returned.
"I missed you, Tadashi. We haven't talked in a while."
"Sorry, it got busy here. How've you been?" Both of you had the biggest grins on your faces.
As you caught up, you discovered that you had been put on the same project as Tadashi, meaning you'd get to see him every day.
It didn't take long until you were talking as you used to. It was if you had last seen him yesterday, not over a year ago.
As weeks passed, the project was coming together nicely. As you worked alongside him old feelings began to resurface. In high school, you had a little crush on Tadashi but didn't say anything. You hadn't wanted to ruin your friendship.
You tried to bury your feelings, he didn't seem like someone who would like another guy.
You were so lost in thought that you started screwing a piece on in the wrong place. "(y/n), I don't think that goes there."
You realized what you were doing and started to undo it. Your face grew a deep crimson.
"Are you okay, (y/n)? You seem to be thinking a lot lately."
You got the piece off and placed it where it belonged. "It's nothing."
"Obviously it's something. You can trust me." He placed his hand on yours and moved it off of the project while turning your head to look at him.
You saw his confident smile and melted inside. Taking a deep breath you decided to tell him. "I've been thinking about us lately. I missed you but was so happy to see you again. I had tried to bury my feelings in high school, but they've come back."
"What feelings?"
"I may have had a crush on you." Your face burned as you spoke.
He seemed startled but nodded. His smile didn't falter either. "I feel the same (y/n). I thought you would just want to remain friends though, nothing more."
"That's not true. I love you." You froze as you realized what you had just blurted out. You saw the smile widen on his face.
"I love you too." He kissed you gently then pulled back to gauge your reaction. You smiled and kissed him again.
"Let's keep working. I know I can focus more now."
