Since you were a kid, you'd known that Tadashi was the one for you. Both of you had been open about your deep feelings for each other. He was your childhood friend and you never did anything without him. You were practically attached to the hip.

That is until you heard the news. Your father's company was moving to America and so were you.

"You seem distracted (y/n). What's on your mind?"

"I just found out this morning that we're moving to America." You looked down at the floor, tears growing in your eyes.

"Don't worry." He said lifting your chin so that he could look into your eyes. "I promise you that we will be together again. I'm not going anywhere so I'll be here when you return."

You nodded as the tears spilled out of your eyes and trailed down your face.

You spent every waking moment with Tadashi before you left. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing you would ever have to do. You hugged him tightly. As you parted he whispered in your ear. "Meet me at SFIT when you get back."

Years passed and you started to enjoy life. You never heard or talked to Tadashi but you never forgot him. You yearned to return to San Fransokyo.

When the time came you could barely hold in your excitement. You were going to see Tadashi once again. You made sure all your paperwork was in order to transfer to SFIT and was packed to go months before you were to leave.

When you arrive you instantly went to SFIT to see Tadashi. After searching around you found his lab and entered. "Tadashi?"

A tall boy turned away from what he was working on and smiled.

Does he recognize me?

"What can I help you with?" You were racked with disappointment.

Maybe he doesn't remember.

"It's me Tadashi (y/n). I've finally returned." He seemed shocked as he realized who you were.

"I never thought I'd see you again." For an instant you thought you saw panic and sadness dance across his eyes before quickly being replaced with joy.

You ran into his arms. "I missed you so much." You kissed him. When he pulled away without returning your kiss, you backed away a few steps. "I'm sorry, it's been so long I couldn't help myself."

Once you started at SFIT, you found that you were in the same lab as Tadashi so you could see him all the time.

It didn't take long before you could talk to him as you had before. Well, almost. He always seemed to have something on his mind when he was around you.

You began to get worried so you decided to ask another of his friends. You ended up asking Wasabi. "Do you know why Tadashi acts differently around me?"

He looked everywhere but at you. "Well it's complicated."

"Just tell me. I deserve to know. Please."

"He told me about you. That he promised to wait for you when you moved. He thought he'd never see you again so he broke his promise. He's getting married on Saturday." He let the information sink in.

The love of your life had fallen in love with someone else. "Are you okay, (y/n)?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." You left the building in a daze.

On Saturday you dressed in a simple (f/c) dress and went to Tadashi's wedding. You didn't want to show up uninvited, but you needed to talk to him.

You made your way through the crowds until you spotted Tadashi. Your breath caught in your throat when you saw him. He looked so handsome in his dark suit.

Slowly you approached him. He looked up and met your eye. He quickly looked away and excused himself from the people he had been conversing with.

"What are you doing here?"

"I needed to talk to you and I needed to do it as soon as possible."

Before you had a chance to say anything more Tadashi broke in. He hugged you close. "I'm sorry (y/n). I should've told you earlier but I felt so bad for breaking my promise."

"Do you truly love her?" He nodded. "Then be with her. I just want you to be happy. Just promise me that you will never let her go. You need to keep this promise."

"I will. Thank you (y/n)."

You quickly turned away from him and walked back into the crowd, anxious to leave before he could see your broken heart. You tried to stay strong though. Somewhere out there was some one better than Tadashi.

As you neared the door, his fiancé caught your eye. You tapped her on the shoulder. She seemed startled as she turned. "You're (y/n), right? Tadashi told me a lot about you. I didn't know you'd be coming."

"I'm actually on my way out. I just wanted to tell you that you are a very lucky woman to be marrying him. Don't ever let him go." You left without another word.

Several days later, Tadashi decided to go to SFIT early to see you. He felt like things had been left unfinished at the wedding and he wanted to apologize and explain.

He opened the lab door expecting to see you. Instead, he noticed that all of your stuff had been cleared out. By the computer sat a USB drive labeled "Read Me."

He recognized your handwriting instantly and immediately plugged the device into the computer. There was a single file on it, a video clip. He hit play, afraid of what he would find.

The screen changed to you looking out at Tadashi.

"My dearest Tadashi. I've left this as my final goodbye to you. I decided to change my major and transfer to another school so that I wouldn't have to see you. It simply hurts too much."

You took a deep breath before continuing. "Thank you so much for being a good friend to me. You were there when I needed you. You just couldn't be what I needed you to be. You know I will always love you but if you've found happiness with someone else, then I'm happy too."

Tears started pooling at the corners of Tadashi's eyes as he watched the video. "No matter what, I want you to be happy with your new wife. Be there for her always and never let her down. I just needed to tell you thank you for all the times we had together. I love you Tadashi."

You shifted uncomfortably in your seat thinking of something else to say before reaching and turning off the camera. Tadashi sat staring at the blank screen with tears sliding down his cheeks until he heard footsteps in the hall.

He wiped away his tears before ejecting the USB and shoving it in his pocket. The door opened and Wasabi walked in.

"Are you okay? Where's (y/n)?"

"She's gone."
