The watch on your wrist read 11:32. You were sitting in the Lucky Cat Café waiting for your best friend. Every week for months the two of you had met here to get drinks and catch up in your busy lives.
You took another glance at your watch before scanning the busy streets for your friend. Time seemed to crawl slowly by as you waited. After another ten minutes you began to grow worried. She had never missed a day and was always here before you at exactly 11.
It was after 11:45 when you got a text from your friend. You sighed disappointedly as you read the bad news. She was sick in bed and wouldn't be able to come.
Slipping the phone in your bag you looked up to see a black haired boy coming toward you with two cups of coffee in his hands. He set them down and looked around.
"Where's your friend today? I've never seen one of you here without the other." You pulled your phone back out of the (f/c) bag and showed him the text. "Well, mind if I join you then?" he asked with a smile.
You agreed and allowed him to seat himself in the chair opposite of you. You took a sip from the scalding cup and quickly regretted doing so. Neither of you spoke for several minutes.
"I'm (y/n), what's your name?" you ask breaking the awkward silence. "I know I've seen you here before but I don't think we've met."
He looked up from the circuit that had appeared in his hands. "I'm Hiro, my Aunt Cass runs this café."
You simply nodded in response as you admired the complicated circuit. Hiro noticed your interest and began to get excited. "I built this one," he said proudly. "But I've done some other really neat projects if you're interested."
Without waiting for your response he got up and practically dragged you out of the chair and onto your feet. You pulled your hand out of his and eagerly followed him up the back stairs.
On the third floor he pulled open the door that led to his room. You looked around with wonder. There were tools lying scattered on the desk that sat in the corner of the room. Pieces of half-finished robots and other miscellaneous projects littered the desk.
Hiro ran over and picked up a small robot with a smiley face painted on its head. It looked to be a limp magnetic doll. "This is what I've just finished!"
You didn't respond and Hiro quickly registered the confusion on your face. "It's much more complex then what you may think. I created it for bot fighting! Just check this out." He set the robot on the floor and grabbed a controller off of the nearby chair.
He flipped on a switch and the bot came to life. It stood and with arms outstretched began to make its way toward you. The way it did so creeped you out a little bit, it was just too happy.
"So it just goes towards them and what, hugs them?" The robot stopped moving as Hiro looked towards you. He smiled and you had a sudden feeling that this little robot was more than it looked.
As Hiro went back to controlling it, it changed course and walked towards the cat that had appeared at the door. The face suddenly swirled around to reveal a red angry face. It split into three pieces and rolled quickly toward and around the cat trapping it in the room.
The cat tried to leap over the pieces but as it did so you could hear Hiro adjusting something on the controller and you worried for the cat. They formed the robot again that caught the furry leg sending the furry cat sliding across the room to your feet.
You picked up the panicked cat and proceeded to pet it as you tried to calm it down. The robot fell lifelessly to the floor with the smiley face plastered on its small head once more. "That's amazing." Hiro grinned at your comment and picked the lifeless robot off the floor.
