You grew up without friends, preferring to keep to yourself and not get involved with anyone else's affairs. Even if you could make friends, you didn't see he point in opening up to someone who could easily turn on you.

By high school, you still hadn't made any friends. You merely tried to survive each day so that you could get through school as painlessly as possible.

No matter how hard you tried to be invisible, you couldn't sustain it for long. Soon after entering high school, you caught the attention of several boys.

They were not nice boys by any means and were not hanging around you because they thought you were. They simply saw someone they could tease without any repercussions.

Each day the bullying got worse and worse. It started out with name calling and quickly moved up to pushing and stuffing you in trashcans. You constantly came home with huge dark bruises that you quickly hid so that your parents wouldn't notice.

As the bullying worsened, you stopped speaking altogether. Your parents and teachers badgered you about why you wouldn't speak but you refused to say a word. You didn't even write out what had been happening.

Months passed and they still didn't get bored of picking on you. On one occasion, they were in the process of shredding your homework while the other shoved you into a nearby locker that had been left open.

A voice suddenly sounded loudly down the hall. "What are you doing?" You recognized it as a boy from your math class, Tadashi.

You were quickly shoved the rest of the way into the locker and the door closed behind you with a click. You heard another lock being placed on the outside as well. You pounded on the door, hoping they would open the door or that Tadashi had seen you.

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"I saw you shove (y/n) into that locker. Don't pretend that you didn't."

You froze. He remembered my name.

Footsteps echoed down the hall as Tadashi neared. "Let him out and then never bother him again or I will get the principal involved." The locker was cramped and dark so you had no way of knowing what was going on outside.

"We won't bother him but we also won't let him out." You heard the boy's race away and you started pounding on the door again. You were getting freaked out. You were not by any means claustrophobic but you didn't want to be trapped in there for long.

"Please calm down (y/n). I'll be right back. I'm just going to go and get the janitor, he has bolt cutters for this lock." He raced down the hall, opposite of where your bullies had gone, leaving you alone in the dark locker.

It felt like hours before you heard several pairs of feet coming towards you. Honestly, you had thought Tadashi was going to abandon you. They stopped by the locker and you heard a snap as the lock was cut.

"We're here, (y/n)." The door opened pouring light into the small space. You covered your eyes, feeling blinded by the light. When your eyes adjusted, you saw Tadashi and the janitor standing in front of you. On the floor nearby where the remaining shreds of your homework.

Tadashi helped you out of the locker. Maybe there are some nice people willing to help others.

~oOo~

After that incident, you decided to try having a single friend, Tadashi. You still wouldn't talk but thanks to his help, you were no longer bothered by either of your bullies.

Slowly, he started to introduce you to other friends of his. They seemed nice but you were not quite ready to open up to anyone else. He was accepting to this and didn't try to pressure you into anything you weren't comfortable doing.

You were still shy but as a year passed, you no longer simply tried to survive each day. You looked forward to school and to seeing Tadashi.

He was slowly pulling you out of your shell, slowly raising your self-esteem.

Occasionally, he would come over to your house to hang out. Your parents were ecstatic at you finally having a friend.

At your house one day he turned serious. It was odd because he was always bright and happy around you. "I need to tell you something and I need to know what you think."

You nodded, indicating that you were listening and pulled out your pad of paper so that you could write out a response.

"I like you (y/n), more than just a friend." You saw red tint his cheeks as he spoke. Unsure of what to write you set the pad down and move so that you were sitting next to him.

Smiling you looked up at him. He took this as a good sign and kissed you. The action startled you, but you found that when you parted, you wanted to continue kissing him.

"I love you (y/n). And I promise I won't ever let anything happen to you."

You kissed him, drawing out the kiss as long as you could. Nothing needed to be said. That kiss was response enough.
