It had been a mere three months since the world had erupted into chaos around you. You could still remember the first outbreak of the virus that had been reported on the television. Thinking it was either a hoax or something that could be easily cured, you ignored it.
Then there were more and more cases of people dying and becoming flesh eating zombies. It soon got to the point where you couldn't ignore it any longer. It had seemed like a bad dream as your neighbors turned on each other. You were well equip with guns and knives since you had a collection so you were able to hole up and survive. When the food ran out, you had started running place to place, looking for food and temporary shelter. It got lonely all by yourself but at least you were alive. Your friends and family from before were all gone or turned. Your closest friends at SFIT had been Tadashi, Wasabi, Honey, Fred, Go-Go and Hiro. You had even held a crush on Tadashi. Now, you knew you'd never have a chance to tell him.
A tear escaped as you thought about them. Wiping it away, you continued what you were doing, searching the house for food. You had already cleared it out and barricaded it but there didn't seem to be much food. You'd have to dig into your ever dwindling supplies.
Having found no food, you sighed in frustration. This had been the fourth foodless house in two days. Out of the corner of your eye you saw a glimmer in the low light. Upon investigation, it was a closed aluminum can without a label. Your luck seemed to be improving a little bit.
With a bit of digging in broken drawers, you found a can opener and pulled off the lid. A horrible smell reached your nostrils and you gagged. You couldn't tell what had been in the can before, but now it was not close to edible. With your sudden loss of appetite, you chucked the can across the room and hit a dirty radio.
You sat down and sighed while trying to think out your next plan. You couldn't keep doing what you were doing.
"Please come......we ha...food...and shelter." The static voice startled you. It had been so long since you'd heard anything like it. Following the noise, you discovered that it had been the radio making the noise.
You messed with the settings and channel until the voice was coming through clearer. "If anyone can hear this, please come to the safety zone. We have food and plenty of shelter. We are located in the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. This message will now repeat."
You stared at the black box listening to the message a second time. Did this place still exist? There was only one way to find out. You decided that first thing the next morning you would start heading there. You stood a better chance going than continuing to scavenge anyway.
~oOo~
The next day you got an early start and avoided dark places that you knew, without a doubt, would hold zombies. The day grew warm and you snuck along the roads. By lunch a tingling sensation had grown on the back of your neck. It felt as if there was someone following you but you never saw another soul.
You stopped and found a ladder leading up to a balcony. You scurried up the ladder and sat digging through your bag for something to eat. You finally decided to simply drink water and look for something else later.
After your break, you continued on your way towards SFIT. At the rate you were going, it wouldn't take you more than another day or two to get there. It would take you the extra time simply because you wanted to be cautious and avoid an unnecessary interactions with the infected.
By the time nightfall was approaching, you had found an intact, seemingly empty house to duck into. You proceeded to clear out the house room by room, finding each to be empty. Coming back to the front door, you saw that it had been pushed open.
