Chapter — 37 Weeks

Girls, Boys & One Absolutely Fucking Terrible Idea

07:15 PM — Leah's House

The house was officially full.

Leah had insisted on having everyone over for a girls' night because, at thirty-seven weeks pregnant, she was desperate for something that didn't involve:

* appointments
* swollen feet
* baby shopping
* vomiting
* people asking if she'd "had the baby yet"

So the living room was filled with snacks, blankets, drinks and far too many opinions.

Beth was sitting cross-legged on the floor.

Katie had taken over the biggest part of the couch.

Steph and Caitlin were arguing over what film to put on.

Lotte was stealing food.

Georgia was laughing at something Mara had said.

And Leah was curled up in the middle of it all, looking exhausted but happy.

"This is nice," she sighed.

Katie looked at her.

"You mean you're enjoying being horizontal?"

"Exactly."

Beth laughed.

"She's basically furniture now."

"Fuck off."

Everyone burst out laughing.

Leah smiled despite herself.

For once, she wasn't thinking about being pregnant.

She was just Leah.

With her girls.

08:00 PM — Meanwhile

Across town, Lilly and Tommy were sitting in a pub.

One drink had turned into two.

Two had turned into three.

Neither was exactly drunk.

Just relaxed.

Lilly leaned back in her chair.

"Do you realise we're both going to regret this tomorrow?"

Tommy laughed.

"Absolutely."

Lilly took another sip.

"I haven't been out properly in ages."

"Because you're married."

"I've always been married."

"Because you're obsessed with Leah."

Lilly smiled.

"Yeah."

Tommy shook his head.

"Disgusting."

"Jealous."

"Never."

They laughed.

Neither of them expected the night to go sideways.

10:40 PM —

The pub had started emptying out.

Lilly and Tommy stepped outside into the cool night air, both a little tipsy and laughing about something completely stupid.
