~~~tour bus~~~
"Mom, seriously," Austin says angrily. "All you have to do is stay with her until the concert is over. Or until she at least wakes up.""Honey, I can't manage if I'm stuck here babysitting."
He huffs. "You have to be the worst parent in the world. You know dad can take care of it."
I hate that he's getting mad because of me. But I can't do anything about that right now.
The tour bus door slams shut after a while and I hear Austin sigh. He takes a seat beside me before spreading a soft blanket over my shoulders.
"I can't stay. I have to leave in a few minutes. But I'll stay until you fall asleep."
I nod and place my head on his lap. His hand plays with my hair as I slowly drift towards sleep.
Austin places a kiss on my cheek. "I'll see you later," I hear him say seconds before I fall asleep.
About two hours later, I finally woke up. My arm hurts from where I was laying on it and there was drool all over the couch from where my head was laying.
I slowly sit up and rub my eyes with a yawn. It's 8:47. The concert is still going on. They have about another hour.
I get up and make my way to the back of the arena. Before I could make it to the door, I hear my name being called.
"Cody?" I ask, a smile forming.
He smiles back with a warm expression. "I had to see you some way."
I grab guys hand. "Let's go inside before the paparazzi get here."
Austin was just finishing his last set when we walked in. He smiles at me. "I was just about to send somebody."
I roll my eyes and head over to the couch. Cody follows me.
He had brought food from Chic-fil-A and I was happily eating my food.
"I wanted to talk to you," Cody says.
I look up at him. "About what?"
He looks at the ground. "Our last phone call."
I'm suddenly not so hungry anymore. I slowly pull the food away from my mouth and swallow. "Its not a big deal," I mutter.
He makes me look up at him. "I didn't do anything with Connie. She did come over but we talked about you the whole time."
Something suddenly snaps and I hand the food back to him. "That's good to know."
He looks surprised for a moment but then recovers. "It's not what you think. It wasn't anything bad."
I cross my arms over my chest and glare at him. "Why do you still talk to her?" I demand.
He shrugs. "There's a ton of guys you talk to, Kelli. And I don't have a problem with that."
"I haven't dated the guys I talk to," I say hotly.
He slams the food down on the table before standing up, catching everyone by surprise. "I had wanted to talk to you about it. Not start an argument."
"Whatever," I snap. "Just leave."
Normally, when he's this mad I'd be scared of him. But I know he won't hurt me while my brother is literally watching us right now.
"Can we just talk somewhere else?" I ask quietly.
His eyes soften but his face remains stoic. "We'll talk later. I told my mom I'd be back before ten. It's already nine."
He takes the food and walks off. I take a deep breath before following him out.
"Kelli," Austin warns.
"I'll be fine," I say, opening the door.
Cody was getting into his car. "You know what," he snaps. "I'm sick and tired of you. If you're going to show up so you can judge me and say how you don't trust me then you can leave."
I haven't taken my medicine. I shouldn't be arguing. But this is getting me mad. He doesn't understand that he shouldn't be friends with his ex. There are still some feelings there. And although he says there aren't, I know there is.
"Cody," I start.
He gets back out of the car and walks up to me, gripping my hands. "I said shut up," he says in a low voice.
I glare at him. "Let me go," I warn.
His grip tightens a little, making it hurt a little more. "In case it isn't obvious, we're all alone."
I gulp, looking around me. The tour bus is all the way on the other side of the building.
"I could do whatever I want to you and no one would know."
I try my best to stay calm as I look him directly in the eye. "Go ahead," I say flatly.
~~~volleyball court~~~
"You're doing better," Sidney says once we're done practicing.I smile. "Thanks."
Cody waves at me from the stands and I grin.
Sidney sighs. "I still don't get what you see in him."
I ignore her and run up to Cody. "I didn't know you were coming," I say, wrapping my arms around his neck.
He gives made a light kiss. "I wanted to apologize," he tells me. "For how I acted the other day."
My smile slightly fades but I just hug him. "It's alright."
"I was wondering if you wanted to go out or something."
I chuckle. "And by out you mean?"
He smiles before leaning in to whisper something. "It's a surprise."
I beam at him. "Okay. But I have to tell Austin not to wait for me."
He nods. "That's fine. I'll be waiting up front."
I go to the locker room and call Austin. After a very long debate, I agree to be back by seven.
"Don't do anything with him," he warns.
I roll my eyes. "First of all, eww. That's disgusting. And second, you need to not worry about what we'll be doing."
"I mean it," he says, I can almost hear the frown in his voice.
"Chill," I snap.
"Kelli, just--"
"I won't do anything," I promise. "And I'll be back by seven. Is that good enough for you?"
He sighs. "Fine. I'll talk to you later."
I hang up and grab my stuff before meeting Cody outside.
No, I think to myself, going back to my conversation with Austin. That's just nasty.
