I woke up with a fever. After I left Cody's house, I had to call Austin because I didn't feel well enough to walk. Although he didn't say anything, I knew he wanted to question me.
When we arrived at the house, I leave the car then go up to my room and get in bed. I hadn't noticed there was any other people in the kitchen until I woke up again at three in the afternoon. My head felt slightly better and it didn't hurt when I took a shower.
I took some of my medicine before heading downstairs. For some reason, it doesn't settle with my stomach like I hoped. But I head downstairs - where Sidney and Austin were talking.
"Hey," Sidney says. She holds up a bowl of macaroni and cheese. "Are you hungry?"
I ignore her, walking past her to the fridge. I grab a water bottle and leave the kitchen.
"Did you take the aspirin?" she asks.
That caught my attention. "Aspirin?" I ask.
Austin face palms. "Please tell me you didn't give her aspirin."
She looks between us for a moment. "She said her head hurts but I couldn't find Tylenol. So I gave her aspirin. Why does it matter?'
I let out a humorless laugh. "Seriously?" I demand. The first time I've spoken to her in days. "Are you trying to kill me?"
Austin glares at me. "Its your fault for taking it," he snaps.
I give him an incredulous look. "Right," I say slowly. "Because some idiot set down a bottle of aspirin beside my medicine it's my fault for taking it."
His gaze wavers.
Sidney looks like she wants to be anywhere else but here. "I'm sorry, I didn't--"
She stops talking when I storm up the stairs. I need my medicine. But I can't take it with aspirin. My stomach could explode. And even though they'd be better off without me, I'm not ready to give in yet.
Right as I started working on schedule changes, my phone rings. I smile when I see it's Cody. "Hey, babe."
But he doesn't say anything.
I wait a minute before talking. "Are you okay?"
"We need to talk," he says quietly.
He's probably breaking up with me, I think. "Okay," I say. "Do you want me to come over?"
"No," he tells me. "I want to take you out. You'll have to dress nice."
"Okay," I tell him.
"I'll pick you up at six," he says quietly.
After he hangs up, I look at the clock. It's 4:17. I have time to take another nap.
~~~Olive Garden~~~
"You look amazing," Cody says after the waitress leaves.I smile at him. "Thanks."
My phone vibrates in my pocket but I ignore it. I don't like to answer phones while on a date.
He looks guilty. I don't know why though. He's playing with the napkins. I place a hand over his and he looks up, as if forgetting I was here.
"How about we just have a good time today," I say softly.
He bites his lip, looking back down before nodding. "Okay."
About an hour later, we were sitting in his car staring out the window when he looks over at me. "Do you want to go for a walk?"
I nod, waiting as he goes around the car to open my door. He holds out a hand and helps me out.
Realizing the heels I have on, I take them off and leave them in the car.
Cody looks at me strangely. "You're a girl."
I give him a confused look. "Of course I am."
"I thought girls worshipped their shoes."
I laugh at the seriousness in his voice. "Not all girls are obsessed with their shoes, Cody."
He cracks a smile. "How was I to know? Connie loves them."
As soon as he says her name, his body goes frigid. It did make it awkward. He knows I hate her. I know he cheats on me with her.
He runs a hand through his face. "You should talk to me," he blurts out.
"What?" I ask him, confused. "We are talking."
He shakes his head. "Just keep talking. Say anything. Please." He was almost pleading with me. Although I want to know what's going on, I don't persue it. I talk like he wants me to. About everything. I tell everything that's going on. From Sid only hanging out with me just to please my brother to the fact that Austin's being more protective.
He looks more relaxed as I finish speaking. "I love you," he says when I'm done. "You know that right?"
"Yeah," I say, a smile overtaking my face. "I love you too."
We walked around for a few minutes before we decided to call it a night. The mood was a lot lighter. He wasn't nervously looking around anymore, shaking for no reason. We were actually talking. He stops at a red light.
He clears his throat. "You know," he says lightly. "Austin is just upset."
I sigh at the sudden change in conversation. "Yeah. Don't know why though," I mutter.
The light turns green and he presses lightly on the accelerator. "It must've been hard to tell you that he's dating your best friend, Kelli. You have to understand that. You didn't tell him we were dating until two months after."
I cross my arms over my chest. "I don't want to talk about this, Cody."
I see bright lights on my side of the car before I could process what was happening.
All of a sudden, we were tumbling across the streets. I let out a yelp before I feel myself black out.
