Being born in a country
Where religion was frowned upon
And being too young to understand
Until coming to the
Land of the free
Home of the brave
For many years
Though I knew
I was Jewish
I never felt religious
And therefore thought
I was a bad Jew
It wasn't until
I got older
And had my
Bat Mitzvah
That I realized something
Important about religion
It does not have to
Be written in stone
Nor always guidelines
Followed
It all comes from
Ones soul and heart
So I became a
Spiritual reform Ashkenazi
I believe in Hashem
Our G-d
But on my own terms
Just like people say
That one can only believe
In religion
Or evolution
Well why not both?
Where does it say
That someone cannot
Believe that G-d created
Evolution
You can be a scientist
And still go to a place
Of worship to a higher power
No longer am I defined
By just one word
Towards my religion
I am not a human being
Living a spiritual life
But a spiritual being
Living a human life
I am me
I do not have to
Conform to any rules
Of my religion
Even in prayer
Everyone is allowed
To be whomever
They seek to become
Reform is the least
Religious of all sections
Of Judaism
Ashkenazi all depends
On which part of the world you are from
Being from the USSR/Belarus
Or Europe as a whole makes
One Ashkenazi
So when someone asks me
Who am I
Religiously
It is very easy for me to
Look them straight in the face
And say
I am a
Spiritual reform Ashkenazi
Forevermore
