"The body of the cockroach is elongated and segmented. It is dark brown or reddish brown in color. The exoskeleton is thick and hard made up of calcareous plates." Mrs Brown our biology teacher explained in painfully graphic detail.
"Gross, I hate cockroaches!" Julia scowled.
I couldn't agree more! Despite our infinite dislike, we still had to concentrate, this was part of the practical work much to our dismay and today's practical, was dissecting a cockroach!

After the successful completion of our practicals along with the girls I left for the cafeteria. Yes, even after rummaging through the intestines of the critter, I was still surprisingly hungry. On our way to the cafeteria, I spotted Ryan and Mike in the corridors.
"Hey!" Ryan and Mike said in unison
"Hey boys, we're heading to the cafeteria. You guys joining us?" Rose asked.
"Sure!" they both echoed.
The cafeteria was brimming with life as the students lined their plates with food. The aroma sailed across our sense, my stomach grumbling in anticipation.
"Hey, did the new girl enjoy the beach yesterday?" Ryan inquires, while grabbing the seat next to me. My stomach only seconds ago grumbling with hunger, was now filled with butterflies.
*The dimple boy looks cute today, with a grey shirt paired with denims.*
"Myra?!"
"Uh, sorry! Was just lost, I totally liked it! Had an amazing day!" I feel my cheeks heat up, thank heavens I managed a normal sounding reply.
"So Myra, you left a broken heart back home?" Mike asks all of a sudden, in seconds I was the center of attention.
*Thanks Mike!*
I feel my lips pull into an awkward smile.
"Where did that come from Mike? But to answer your question, I was in a relationship and happy to admit I'm single now."
After we finished lunch, I was happy to head home, when I noticed Ryan was silently following me.
"Stalking's a crime you know!" I grin over my shoulder.
"Only if you report it." he winks
"Ha ha, very funny! So, what's up? " I asked
"Just wanted to ask if you are okay? You seemed a bit down after Mike's probing." Ryan said.
"Thanks, but no need to worry. That happened long ago and I've had time to get over it and move on." I smile reassuringly at him.
He moves up next to me and asked me what happened.
"Stan and me were childhood friends, he was every girls dream guy. We dated for a couple of years, but I quickly learned the price by dating a guy that good looking. I found out he was cheating on me and broke it off."
The explanation was short and to the point, but I still felt the small jab of pain when I discovered his infidelity, almost like he was saying I wasn't good enough.
"He sounds like a douche! Sorry you had to go through something like that." Ryan said with sad eyes.
He walks me to the bus stop and waited with me. I soon learned that Ryan had a heart of gold and was a really loyal and good friend, quick to stand up for those he considered his friends. In that moment I felt like I knew him a little better and honored that he counted me as one of his friends.
