Chapter 13 - a part of me is missing

"Okay doc....thanks" I rubbed his arm "Michael..just be patient with her okay? It's a big blow" he rubbed my arm "we'll get through it doc, she's, she's a strong woman, and our family is supportive-" "that's all well and good, and it'll certainly help, but you need to remember, this, for a woman, a very very big thing, and the recovery is a lot longer than you'd think, so, just, especially you, needs to be patient okay?" I swallowed nervously "okay...Thankyou" "no problem, we've sorted her prescription pain killers out, I'll bring them in later you can go and see her now" he smiled kindly at me as I stood opposite Charlie's room door, I took a breath before entering, Charlie was just sat there, staring forward at the wall, in her hospital gown and big grey jumper her dad had given her, her food on the side table, freezing, "hey" my voice cracked as I saw her "Charlie you gonna eat something?" "Not hungry" she tried to tuck her legs to her chest, but struggled with the pain so flopped them back down, summer had come in after me, "hey, summer...sweetie...fancy going to get your mum a hot chocolate?" "Yeah sure! Erm, can I grab one? You want anything?" "Sure here, in fact if you want, get some grub, you need to keep your health up! And I'm fine thanks not really up for much" Summer walked away, Alex was stood outside and went with her "Charlie...what's wrong?!" "You won't understand" she muttered, in a monotone voice "try me, come on, humour me..." She moved her head to face me in a a swift movement, she looked at me straight in the face, and that was the first time I'd noticed it, her sparkly personality had gone, completely, "I...I feel Like a major part of me is missing....I...I cry none stop and I hate it but, I've barely looked in the mirror, I, I feel less like a woman, and it was the fact that I didn't get the choice, and I know we didn't plan on any more kids, but, now that I don't even have a choice, mouse I hate it" she wiped her cheek as a tear rolled over it, "Charlie you are no less of a woman! And hey think about it this way...no periods!" "I knew you wouldn't get it...." She tutted as she rolled her eyes "Charlie I'm just trying to lighten the situation..." "Sorry..." She sniffed as she pulled her her sleeves down of her jumper to cover her hands as a comfort thing like she usually did when she felt vulnerable, "is summer Ill?" She looked back to me "what?" "You said to keep your health up, is...is she ill? Do I need to help her?" I looked at charlie, shit, she didn't hear summer, she wouldn't have, she was still unconscious "Charlie..." I held her hand "Charlie she's pregnant" her eyes watered but a small weak smile came on her face "that's something I haven't seen for a while" summer stood there holding three cups and a bag....

I looked at summer "hey mum" she smiled at me, nervously "you're pregnant?" She looked down at her stomach and rubbed the tiny bump "yeah...I er, I'm 5 months...and then this happened..." She held her left hand up, a shiny, elegant engagement ring shone on her finger "oh my god my baby" I held my arms open as she put the goodies down and wrapped her arms around me tightly "are you okay?" "hey, this is not about me!" My voice was slurred, I knew it was, the drugs were strong, they had to be, "This is all about you, forget me, this, this is exciting, look at my babies growing up" Mouse chuckled "there's one more thing, that I only found out the other day" he stalled "yeah..? Go on!" "Mum Flynn's dating JJ" Summer beamed "as in....Jensen's JJ?" They both nodded "wow...how'd that happen?" I smiled at them As she handed me a hot chocolate that I didn't want, but didn't want to hurt her feelings "at the cocktail bar opening, they got chatting, I may have put in a good word for him, sister looking out for her Brother and all that" "that's my girl...tell you what though, he messes it up I'll kill him, JJ is great, the best thing to happen to him" my eyes were getting heavy, mouse could tell "hey! How about we go grab a McD and then it'll give your mum some time to rest" "great shout" summer beamed "see you later! Want me to bring you anything back?" "Erm no sweetie, Thankyou though" she smiled widely at me "okay!" She walked out, met Alex and mouse kissed my cheek before walking out, as soon as the door closed the tears fell and there was nothing I could do to stop them.

I was laid in bed, it was visiting hours again, I could hear mouse, I kept my eyes closed intrigued to know what he'd say if he thought I was asleep...and it nearly killed me when I heard him sobbing on the phone "whip mate...she, she's in a bad way" he sniffed loudly "no, she's, she's been awake but, mate you shoulda seen her when they told us what they'd done" he was pacing, "she Erm, she said about looking in the mirror, she can't face to see herself, because every time she looks in a mirror now she hates what she sees, I wish she knew how radiant she looks without make up, how much I admire the way she carries herself, how crazy she drives me, how special her touch makes me feel, how happy it makes me when I see her smile, I wish she knew she doesn't have to be perfect to be perfect to me, but now all she sees is in her own words, a less of a woman" he was really sobbing, like snotty nose, red face sobbing, "don't you think I've told her that!?! I'm so useless whip mate, I just, I don't know what to do, I listen to her, I'm there for her but, I feel just so fucking useless" I could no longer hold back my own tears, one escaped and fell down the side of my face "I love her so much, and the thought of her being unhappy, hating herself, not seeing herself as much of a woman anymore...when in reality, she's the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen...I just wish she'd see that....alright pal, thanks!" he hung up the phone "I love you" and with that he closed the door...

I decided to put in my earphones, with no visitors why the hell not, as I had my eyes closed sat up in bed the best I could, propping myself up on my pillows *I stop and stare at you walking on the shore, I try to concentrate my mind wants to explore* whippet walked into my room, I pulled a headphone from my ear and looked at him "what you listening to?" He looked at me as I fiddled with the headphones "Erm...ACDC, y'know good ol Rock classics hey-!" He unplugged my phone and turned the volume up *oh mysterious girl, I wanna get close to you, oh mysterious girl, move your body close to mine* "ACDC huh..." "where's mouse?" I snatched the phone back for him "He sent me" he swallowed nervously as he sat down on my bed "has he...has he fallen out with me?" "What?! No Charlie!" He sighed heavily "he sent me to have a chat with you" "before you start, I heard him on the phone earlier" "good this'll be easy then, you're gonna stay there and listen, okay here goes, to mouse it sounds like you're giving up, and anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing to do in the world, but to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength, so when something bad happens, you have three choices, you can either let it define who you are, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you" I looked at him, "your body is what makes you sexy, your smile is what makes you pretty, but Charlie, your personality, that's what makes you beautiful, and I mean okay you're absolutely stunning facially wise anyway but you get my point" he let out a long breath and folded his arms "whip-" "no! No I'm not listening to the whole I'm less of a woman speech, it's a load of bull, char, you're not any less a woman, I understand it's a nasty thing to have had done, I get that, but Charlie nobody loves you any less, in fact, stay strong people will love you even more! Don't let it get to you Babe, focus on the good things, like being there for summer, and her unborn baby, helping with their weddings, Charlie you're literally the best mother in law there has ever been" I smiled, naturally smiled with a big grin "thanks whip" I pulled him into a hug "just for the record, I wasn't going to give you the not a woman speech, I was going to tell you to get off my damn foot, it went dead when you sat on it" he jumped up quickly as I rubbed my numb foot "you're heavier then you look whip, you fat ass" "hey" he punched my arm, which I acted up "hey! No punching the poorly one!" I punched him back, and smiled "right I'm picking you up later tonight see ya then". He kissed me before walking out.

I made sure no one was around when I turned my phone up and sang along "Well i've been sitting by the phone hoping you'd call, When time me hear your voice I feel ten feet tall, Body weh you have a make de man dem a bawl, Man a trip over man when time your name call, Your pretty looks surround me like a flowers a bloom, And I love the smell of your Elizabeth Taylor perfume, Your personality alone light up de room, Just one kiss alone a make me heart go boom" I did the accent and the actions just as whip stood there "not sure if that's really good, or really sad you know those words..." "I thought you'd gone" I wiped the face from my hair "mmmnope, forgot my coffee" he picked up the cup and walked to the door "see ya later Charlie" he smirked as he closed the door behind him, I threw my head back on the pillow in embarrassment.
