It was freezing cold in the small cabin but neither you nor Gabe wanted to get up and add more wood to the fire. You had been living with Gabe for a few months and you couldn't have been any happier. He had moved himself out of the main cabin and built a small place just for the two of you.
Looking over at Gabe who was faking sleep beside you, he was wearing his usual bedtime attire of a tank top and boxers. You wore basically the same thing so you weren't dressed any more warmly than he was. You lifted the back of your hand to feel your cold nose and shivered under the blankets. It would be just a matter of a few steps to jump out of the warm bed, dash across the chilly wood floor, grab a stick of wood and stuff it in the small opening in the stove. But the air in the room was so cold and the bed was so warm.
"Gabey!" You shook him roughly, not letting him pretend he was still asleep. "Get up! It's so cold in here!" He opened one eye and you saw his smile even in the dim light. His grin grew mischievous and Gabe immediately rolled over on top of you, almost smothering you with his broad chest. He positioned his elbows on the sides of your head and you tried to move your head but you were trapped.
"Hey! Get off my hair!" You laughed as you struggled. "Go get the fire going, man!" His grin widened and he began kissing you every time you tried to talk. Finally giving up, you let him kiss you repeatedly until you were both warm and slightly sweaty and out of breath.
"Still cold?" Gabe's breath was warm on your face and you smiled sweetly as you positioned yourself underneath him. Suddenly shoving with all your might, you flipped Gabe off of you, proud of your strength. But you overdid it and Gabe landed with a loud thump and a grunt on the hard wooden floor. Relieved to hear his laughter, you peeked over the edge of the bed."You OK, Gabey?" You really hadn't meant to push him so hard. He looked up at you leaning over the side of the bed, your hair hanging in your face.
"You didn't kill me if that's what you mean." He grinned and slid his right hand over your cheek. Before you could say another word, Gabe's left hand shot up and locked onto your neck and he yanked you down off the bed.
"Heeeeyyyy!" You yelled as you slammed down on top of him, the cold air chilling you instantly.Faster than you thought possible, Gabe jumped up and over you, hopping feet first back into the warm bed. As he dragged all the covers over his chilled body, he tossed his words at you over his shoulder.
"Since you're up. How about putting another log on the fire?"
