***A short Gabe imagine***
The worst feeling in the world for you was being away from Gabe. After being married for three years, you woke up every morning and immediately turned to face him. Lying next to you in bed with his back to you, all you could see was a large, blanket-covered lump. But whenever he felt you move toward him, he lifted his arm and let you slip yours underneath and snuggle close to his back. You still had vivid dreams about your life with him and when your eyes opened and he was there in the flesh, your heart pounded in your chest and tears sprang to your eyes. You were so grateful that he wasn't just a dream.
He was leaving for four days to go with his dad and one of his brothers to pick up and deliver some lumber and they needed his strong back to get the job done. The trip was still two days away but you were starting to miss him already. You tried not to let your feelings show during the day, but a night and in the morning, your mind wouldn't let you rest. You knew he wouldn't forget you while he was gone, but sometimes your selfish heart was afraid he would be so busy and preoccupied with his work that he would forget to miss you. Silly? Yes. But that was how you felt.
Gabe stirred under your soft touch and you let him guide your hand to the places he most enjoyed. When he turned to face you with his blue eyes fully open and a smile already on his face, your heart jumped into your throat and you burst into tears.
And what happened next was the reason you loved Gabe the way you did. His eyes closed so he couldn't see your tears because he knew why you were crying. He already knew how much you would miss him and how your days would be long without him near you. He knew the nights would be even longer and that the quiet and the stillness in the cabin would wrap around your heart and sleep wouldn't come for a long time. He knew all that because that's exactly how he felt when you went to help your sister for a few days with her new baby.
So, he wrapped you in his arms and rolled onto his back and pulled you onto his chest, letting your legs rest between his legs and your face rest beside his face. He held you tightly and kissed you gently and began to sing softly in your ear;
"Unforgettable. That's what you are, unforgettable, though near or far."
You laughed and held Gabe tighter as his deep voice mimicked Nat King Cole's version of your favorite song.
"Like a song of love that clings to me, how the thought of you does things to me. Never before has someone been more..."
Bringing your face up to press a kiss to the side of his mouth, you finished the lyrics with him.
"Unforgettable..."
