Gabe placed one hand on your cheek and brought his face so close to yours that all you could see were his bright blue eyes. Your own eyes sparkled and you didn't know if it was from desire or fear. Maybe both?

"You are going to be fine. You can do this." He smiled and his eyes crinkled at the corners and you fell in love with him all over again.

You couldn't trust yourself to say a word. You simply nodded and when Gabe brought his lips down on yours, you pressed yourself to him tightly and clutched at his broad shoulders. The kiss was brief but it calmed you quickly and reminded you that you were with the man you loved and who loved you. What could go wrong?

The sudden crash coming again from the bushes directly behind you made you jerk your head around and you nearly dropped your rifle in your sudden panic.

"It's ok." Gabe kept his hand on your cheek and forced you to look into his eyes one more time. "It's just a bird. We're fine." His smile was bigger now and his mouth came down on yours again, soft and insistent.

You closed your eyes and pushed down your fear, leaning into the kiss, wanting it to go on forever. Gabe obviously wanted the same thing and you felt his muscular arms slide around your waist and pull you closer.

"CRASH!"

The sound from the bushes behind you was louder this time and Gabe jumped away and lifted his rifle.

"Ummm." He frowned as you moved behind him away from the bushes. "I don't think that's a bird."

Gabe stood perfectly still as he kept his rifle sighted on the nearby bushes. Your heart was pounding in your chest and you had almost forgotten that you were holding a rifle, too. Lifting it carefully to your shoulder, you stood a foot to the side of Gabe and slightly behind him.

"What do we do now, Gabey?" Your voice quivered a little and you tried to hold your gun steady.

"We wait." He said softly and held his pose.

The minutes stretched out and no further sound came from the bushes. The stillness in the woods was absolute and all you could hear was your own shallow breathing. Gabe's shoulders slowly relaxed and you saw him lower his rifle and take a couple of steps back.

"We really should find a place to camp for the night in case we don't get a deer today." He said calmly.

You nodded one more time even though your mind was a screaming mass of emotions. What am I doing here? I'm a city girl. I don't know how to use a gun. I'm not used to living in the bush like this! Am I crazy?!

Gabe swung his rifle over his shoulder and slid his hand along your cheek again. The calm you felt was almost instantaneous. That man really knew how to work you. You smiled up into his face and remembered why you agreed to come to Browntown and to the woods with him. You loved this man and for some crazy reason, he loved you even though you knew nothing about living in the bush. Gabe brought you to Browntown for a long weekend to show you the bush life he grew up with and still loved. So you nodded your head again and smiled.

"OK, Gabey. Let's make camp." You moved toward the clearing and let Gabe step ahead of you to lead the way.

Throwing one last glance over your shoulder, your eye caught on a flash of movement in the bushes and you were off and running in the opposite direction, tugging Gabe behind you.

"Whaaat?" Gabe muttered as he lumbered along behind you, barely keeping up with your racing feet.

"Don't know. Don't care. Just run!" You panted as you headed for the open field and away from whatever might decide to spring from the bushes.

Breathing heavily once you reached the middle of the field, you finally slowed down and looked behind you. Gabe slowed down too but not as quickly and he slammed into the back of you, knocking you to the ground. Your rifle went flying and your eyes widened as you saw Gabe's bulk falling toward you. Throwing your hands out to protect as much of your body as you could, Gabe landed on you with a solid thud and a whoosh of air.

"Uhhhhh." You moaned after you finally caught your breath.

You tried to move but Gabe's full weight was on you and you could only move your feet from side to side.

"Get off me!" You tried to yell but it was too hard to get a deep breath.

Gabe's face was directly against your cheek and you nudged his head with yours to get him to move. When he finally pulled his head back and looked at you, his grin was HUGE!

"What's so funny?" You huffed.

You shook your hips to try to dislodge him but Gabe planted his elbows on either side of your head and dropped his head down, silencing your words with a deep kiss. Wow, that man really knew how to kiss. With his lips on yours, you couldn't think of anything else except the feel of his mouth and the weight of his body on yours, starting a fire in you that you hoped he wouldn't leave unquenched for long.

"We have to move back toward the trees a little to make camp. I need to tie the tarp to a tree for our shelter tonight." He said softly between kisses.

"OK." You mumbled and wrapped your arms around his thick waist.

"We should probably do that now before it starts getting dark."

"OK." You succeeded in spreading your feet just wide enough to hook them around his ankles, anchoring him to you.

"What if a wild animal comes while we are, ummm, doing it?" Gabe's innocent looking expression almost made you laugh out loud.

"You'll think of something." Your lips nibbled on the lobe of his ear as you rubbed your cheek along his soft sideburns.

"CRASH!" The sound from the bushes was just as loud as before and your eyes snapped open and your head swung toward the sound.

With his eyes still closed and his lips on your neck, Gabe pulled his rifle up to him, aimed into the sky above where the sound came from and fired one ear-splitting shot.

"That should give us just enough time." He mumbled and brought his head back down to nuzzle your neck.
