Things I've Learned

"I don't think I can do this, Gabe." You tried not to whine but the axe was so heavy and you were so tired of trying that you thought you might drop it on your foot.

"You can do it." He encouraged. "My sister Rainy can do it and she's only thirteen. So try it again. I'll help you."

When you and Gabe got together, there were so many things you had to learn. The first thing was that he was rarely serious. The first time you made love, he made you laugh so hard that you weren't sure you'd be able to finish what you both had been waiting so long for.  But after you finally stopped laughing and your sides stopped aching, he had slid his full lips onto yours, parting your lips with his moist tongue and your hands had twined into his soft curls and there was absolutely nothing funny about that amazing moment.

When you both finally lay back on the pillows, sweaty and satisfied, he had turned to you with a mischievous grin on his face and started with the jokes again. But then his blue eyes had flown from your smiling face down to your naked breasts as they bounced and jiggled with your laughter. And when he had reached out and gently cupped your breast with his large hand, things quickly turned serious again and that was the start of the second time you made love.

The second thing you needed to learn was how to use an axe to be able to chop wood for the stove. Since you began living in Brown town, Gabe did everything for you. But after a few days, he decided it was time for you to start learning how to take care of things for those times he had to be away. Gabe was a patient teacher and he was gentle with you. But whenever you would try to lift the heavy axe, you would lean off balance and you were sure you would drop it and chop off your toes.

"Hold it like this." Gabe stepped behind you and slid both arms around yours and placed his hands on top of yours. When you felt the heat of him and his thick chest pressing against your back, there was no way you were going to be able to concentrate. It was like a scorching fire everywhere he touched you. Gabe squeezed your hands onto the axe and you snorted out a laugh. Because with his hands on you and your mind only focused on the feel of him against you, you honestly had completely forgotten that you were holding the axe.

"Ok." You breathed and lay your head back on his chest and tried to ignore the feel of his thick thighs pressing against yours.

"Now lift it like this." He spoke in his deep voice as he pulled your arms up and swiftly pushed them back down, cleanly splitting the stick of wood into two pieces.

"Yes!" You yelled and tossed the axe onto the ground and swung around into Gabe's arms. "Enough for today." You grinned and looked up into his face and it didn't take much to convince Gabe.

Grabbing you around the waist Gabe lifted you off the ground and slung you over his shoulder, your hair hanging down his back. As he walked quickly with you toward your cabin, one hand gently patting your backside, you heard him humming a tune.

"What is that song you're humming?" You asked as you bounced along, getting slightly lightheaded at being almost upside down, but not wanting him to put you down.

"I don't know the name of it." Gabe admitted. "But it's been stuck in my head ever since we watched that video you brought over."

Your mind scrambled as you tried to remember what video he was talking about.

The third thing you learned about Gabe was that he loved old movies and he had an amazing memory for voices and songs. And when you brought him new shows to watch, you often had to put up with him quoting lines and singing songs from the movies for days afterward. And now, as you listened to him hum a tune that was so familiar, you finally heard him sing the words that brought everything back to mind. You burst out laughing and Gabe stopped and let you slide down to the ground. You tried to stop laughing but every time you thought of the words to the song, you would start giggling again. Taking a deep breath you finally burst out with the lyrics,

"I'm a lumberjack and I'm Ok! I sleep all night and I work all day!"

"That's it!" Gabe yelled. "that's the song!"

Grabbing him by the shoulders, you shook him back and forth as you looked him directly in the eye.

"Gabe! Don't EVER sing that song again!" You tried to be serious but the smile wouldn't leave your face.

"Why not?" He asked seriously.

Looking into his bright blue eyes you saw a man who was so rugged and manly and so opposite of the rest of the words to that crazy Monty Python song. You thought he would find the show funny, and he had laughed uproariously at their skits. But his memory for music was coming back to haunt you and you had to make him understand.

"Gabe. The rest of the words to that song are...well..." You hesitated, looking for the right words. "They just wouldn't sound right coming out of your mouth. OK?" Your hands slipped around his neck and you saw him nod his head.

"OK. I don't remember the rest of the song, but if it bothers you, I won't sing it." He smiled down at you.

Gabe was the sweetest man you had ever met and it always amazed you how he didn't need a lot of explanation or words. If something bothered you, he simply stopped doing it. You had never met a man like him and you didn't use the phrase lightly when you said he was 'one of a kind." Biting your lip a little, you gazed at the handsome face and muscular body of the man you loved, and who loved you.

Glancing at your cabin door a few steps away, you looked quickly back into his eyes and saw that he was ready for the same thing you were. You had learned so much about Gabe in the short time you had been together. He was smart and funny and hardworking and creative and so beautiful that sometimes you couldn't stop looking at him. So you kept your eyes on his face and pressed your body to his, leaning your hips tight against him.

The fourth thing you learned about Gabe was that when you asked him to tell you, on a scale from one to ten, how strong was he? His answer was always, "I'm pretty darn strong."

"So... How strong are you, Gabey?" You slid your hand down his soft sideburns and rotated your hips slightly against his as you asked your question. His eyes widened and then darkened with passion as his body responded to yours.

"I'm pretty darn strong." He answered thickly and easily scooped you up into his arms and turned to push open the cabin door with his boot.

"I'm counting on that." You whispered softly into his ear as he carried you directly to the bed.
