Another oldie that I'm moving over from Tumblr.
*********************************You walked out of the small cabin into the bright morning sunlight. It was a beautiful spring day in the Alaskan bush. Gabe had been gone when you woke up, but you knew he wouldn't have gone far. You remembered the feel of him next to you and your smile grew as you recalled how he had touched every part of you.
He was a big brawny guy, but he was always gentle with you, always careful with your body and with your heart. You never imagined loving someone the way you loved him and your smile rarely left your face when you were with him.
Last night in the cabin, Gabe had told you over and over that he loved you. It seemed like he couldn't say it enough. In the dim light of the cabin, you had stroked his face and repeated his words back to him
"I love you."
"I love you, too."
"I love you, more."
"I love you, more, too!" Until you were both giggling and until his mouth had settled over yours and stayed there. In the coolness of the morning, you pulled your light jacket around your shoulders. You had taken only two steps when Gabe suddenly appeared around the side of the building.
"Hey, no! Get back inside!" He grabbed you by the shoulders and began propelling you back into the cabin. You laughed as usual. You were never surprised at anything Gabe did. He was always doing silly things to make you laugh that always wound up making you love him more.
"Why can't I come out? What are you up to?"
"Just stay in there another minute. I'm almost done." Gabe's blue eyes were shining and his grin was as big as you had ever seen it. Looking at his smile you couldn't help grabbing his shirt and pulling him to you for a quick kiss. You would have made it a long kiss, but he did seem to be in a bit of a hurry about something. You let him go and rubbed your hands against his flannel shirt, enjoying the feel of his firm muscles through the fabric."Oh, yeah. Would you take this in for me when you go?" He hurried to unbutton the blue and black plaid shirt and handed it to you.
You held it in one hand and snagged the front of his tank top with the other hand."Sure, Gabey. But don't do anything crazy that will make me have to tickle you." You started poking your finger toward his ribcage as he grinned and jumped away, his palms out to protect his ticklish sides.
"I promise! Now put that finger away!" Gabe pushed at your hand. You brought your extended finger to your mouth, blew on the tip like it was a smoking gun and then slipped your hand in your pocket.
"I'll be right back for you, Sweetheart. Don't go away." Gabe gave you a gentle push back into the cabin and disappeared again behind the small cabin.
As you sat on the bed waiting, your eye went to the small hand-drawn picture hanging above the bed. It was a pencil drawing Gabe had made you when you first moved into the cabin with him. The picture was the two of you drawn in soft profile. Your foreheads were touching and your fingers were interlaced with each other. Gabe had written the words, "Forever" at the bottom.
"Oh, Gabey." You whispered as you touched the small picture. "That is exactly how long I will love you."
When the cabin door opened, you jumped up from the bed and met Gabe at the door. His sweet smile always melted your heart and you took his outstretched hand and stepped with him into the clearing in front of the cabin. Your eyes widened and your mouth dropped open as you tried to take in the scene. The entire front yard was full of pink flowers. They were literally everywhere.
"Gabey, what is this? Where did you get all these flowers?" Your mind was reeling at the sight and the fragrant smell of the lovely pale blooms.
"Rainy and Birdy helped me pick them this morning. I know these "spring beauties" are your favorite wildflowers." He wrapped his beefy arms around your shoulders and held you as you turned in a circle, your eyes marveling at the beauty.
"There are so many! Did you leave any flowers in the ground?" You asked with a laugh.
"Nope. So you'd better enjoy these while you can." Gabe kissed you gently on the nose and moved you to stand directly in the middle of the flowers."I've never loved any girl the way I love you." His blue eyes were so beautiful, you couldn't look away. "And I know I will love you forever. Will you love me forever?" He held his breath, waiting for your answer. You couldn't believe he even had to ask.
"Of course, I will love you forever."
You dropped your head a little so he wouldn't see your tears. Even though they were happy tears, he hated to see you cry. But this time he understood. Dropping to one knee, Gabe impulsively grabbed you around the waist, his dark curly hair pressed against your stomach. Letting go quickly, he leaned back to look up at you. You could barely breathe you were so happy."So..., will you marry me?" Gabe's grin electrified your insides and as you tugged on his shoulders he shot to his feet and you wrapped your arms around his thick neck.
"Yes! Of course I'll marry you!" You could barely speak for the lump in your throat as the hot tears continued to fall. You breathed in the scent of him. He smelled like moss and sunshine.
"Forever, Babe." Gabe pressed his forehead to yours. With a smile on his face, he reached down to hold your hands and interlace your fingers with his, bringing his drawing of the two of you to life.
