All Day and All Night

It seemed as if there wasn't anything Gabe could say or do. You had told him over and over that you didn't want to move to Alaska.

Meeting him in Las Vegas was a surprise and you knew he was a long way from home. Neither of you expected to have the kind of feelings for each other that you did after only two days, but there you were. Sitting in your small living room wearing only a tank top and shorts, you loved the warmth of the room and the bright lights of the city glowing through your front windows.

Gabe was wearing a tank top and jeans and was sweating profusely, his dark curls plastered to his head. The Las Vegas heat was difficult for him and he loved his cool-weather Alaska as much as you loved your warm weather in Vegas.

He sat slumped forward in the chair, his large frame making the chair seem even smaller than it was. His hands were clasped between his knees and his shoulders hung down like a man on the verge of giving up.

"What if you come to Alaska for a little while and see how you like it?" He offered hopefully and his eyes pierced yours like a beautiful shaft of bright blue light.

"Because it's cold there and I like it warm." Your argument had been the same for the past three hours as you pranced around your warm apartment drinking your frosty iced tea.

"I'll keep you warm." Gabe lifted his head a little.
"All day and all night?" You said with a tinge of sarcasm in your voice.
"Yes." He answered confidently.

Your shoulders sagged, weary of the back and forth. You slid out of your chair and onto your knees in front of Gabe. He reached eagerly for you and pulled you to him, and you settled yourself between his legs with your body pressed close to his chest.

"You can't keep me warm all day and all night. That's not even possible." Your voice was tight with emotion.

"I can do anything I put my mind to."

"Gabey, look." You lifted your head and looked directly into his eyes. "I am so much in love with you that I can barely breathe when I'm around you."

"Please breathe." He joked around a lump forming in his throat. "I love you and I don't want you to die."

It was out in the open. You both loved each other and there wasn't going to be an easy way for this to go. Gabe had responsibilities to his family and you had responsibilities to your job and it seemed there was no compromise to be found. The past three hours had been a volley of back and forth requests but no compromise.

There was a pleasure being with Gabe that you couldn't describe. He was easy and fun but serious and deep and his heart was as big as his muscles. He never demanded things the way other men did. But he asked and he waited and he loved and he gave until the only thing you could do was say yes to him.

"What do you want most of all?" He suddenly asked you. "If you could have whatever you wanted, what would that be?"

Even as you formed the thought in your mind, you knew what the answer would be. What you wanted had been clear for two days. But what you wanted and what you felt you could do were two different things.

"I want to be with you." You whispered and kissed him with a fervor that frightened you a little. It felt like it might be the last time you felt his mouth on yours. His lips were warm and his hands slid up and down your sides as he held you tight to him.

When the kiss finally broke, Gabe gripped your arms just above the elbow and held you so that your face was close to his. His humor and the laughter that was always in his eyes was easy to take. But this new intensity in his eyes was something you had to get used to.

"Then be with me." He said it so simply like it was an easy thing. And you supposed it was easy for him. He wasn't asking to stay with you. He was asking you to go with him.

"But what about my job? And my house?" You protested weakly and Gabe recognized the change in the tone of your voice and his eyes lit up and he seized the moment.

"I'll stay here with you until you are free of your job and then we'll sell your house and you can come with me to Alaska."
"But it's so cold there..." You whined and when Gabe laughed, you laughed too.
"I'll keep you warm." He repeated and kissed the top of your head.

You hesitated and looked around your living room that had been your home for the past three years. The life you had built in Las Vegas was amazing and you didn't think anything else could top that. At least not until you met Gabe. And now, the thought of a life in Las Vegas without Gabe was...unthinkable.

"Will you promise to keep me warm all day and all night?" You asked and this time, he knew he might actually have a chance.
"All day and all night and all winter and all summer." His grin grew.

"I don't need you to keep me warm in the summer, Gabey."
"Yeah, you do. It's cold in Alaska in the summer, too."
"Nooooooo!" You hugged yourself to the man you loved and couldn't live without.

"We'll have to buy you some new clothes." Gabe smiled. "Although I'll miss seeing all this." He rubbed his hands smoothly down your bare arms and your bare legs and your heart raced at his touch.

Crawling up into his lap and snuggling closer, you shook your head and pulled his large, slightly sweaty arms around you. "No, Gabey. You'll still get to see all this, because remember, you promised to keep me warm all day and all night."
