"THIS CANNOT BE HAPPENING!!" Taylor shouted after Dr. Lucas left the waiting room.
Kariann was attempting to console Kimby who was now hysterical. "Why Karlie?" Kimby asked. "She didn't do anything to anyone. This is so unfair."
"Shhhh, Kimby. It's going to be ok, you wait and see. Karlie is a fighter." Kariann wasn't sure if any of her words were really penetrating. But she tried her best to hold back the tears and stay positive.
A short time later, Tracy returned from being tested, only to be told that she wasn't a match.
"How can this be? She's my daughter." Tears fell from her eyes knowing that the one time Karlie needed her most, she was unable to be there.
The family was a mess. Due to medications that Andrea and Scott were on, they were not eligible to be donors. Taylor and the sisters were tested, but non of them matched either.
----------
Michael's mother had returned to the waiting room, pacing around as the man she was with earlier kept telling her to sit down and relax.
"DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME TO SIT DOWN. MY SON IS FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE."
"Karen, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that, Michael is a strong boy. He'll be ok, I'm sure he will be."
"HE'S MY BABY." Karen yelled as she fell to her knees and began sobbing.
Taylor couldn't resist going over to Karen. It was now confirmed that it was Michael who was indeed sick. He had done so much for Karlie in that short amount of time, that Taylor couldn't help herself. As distraught as she was, she made her way over to Karen, as she knelt beside her.
"I'm sorry." Taylor said. "I don't have any children, but I can't even imagine the pain you're experiencing right now."
Karen nodded her head and said, "I'm sorry for my outburst. People mean well when they try to comfort and console and yet, it never truly helps. Everyone says to relax or calm down and it makes you want to scream because they don't get it and it makes me so angry. He's only twelve. I'm so angry at everyone right now. I feel so helpless."
Taylor rubbed her back as Karen asked how Karlie was doing.
"How did you know?" Taylor replied.
"I'm sorry Taylor. I just assumed since she's the only one that's not here."
"Oh yeah. I'm sorry. I'm just on edge. We were just married two days ago and now we're here and I'm just really scared right now."
The singer explained that she needed a blood transfusion and they were contacting other hospitals to see if they had the type she needed.
"I can donate." Karen said.
"What?" Taylor replied.
"I can donate. I'm type O. I can donate to anyone."
Karen immediately walked over to the nurses station and explained that her blood type is a match for Karlie. She went on to say that Michael already had blood harvested for himself over the last few months, and would already have a supply should he need it during his surgery. The nurse took her in the back to ask a series of questions and to draw the blood if it was infact a match. Luckily, it was.
Doctors rushed to get the supply into Karlie's system and were successful in doing so.
Dr. Lucas entered the waiting room and approached Taylor and the rest of the family. A smile began to appear on his face.
"Taylor, she's in the recovery room now and will be for a while, but she's going to be ok. We're going to treat her with radiation instead of chemotherapy. She'll need to have it once a day, five times a week for six weeks. She'll need extensive follow ups for the next three years. After five years, if the cancer doesn't reappear she won't have to see me again. I can only take two of you down right now but it has to be quick because she needs her rest. Once we get her to her room, you can visit again but it still needs to be quick. Come on, I'll take two of you down."
