The last days of the St. Louis trip were emotionally draining for both Karlie and Tracy. Karlie had been up each night, suffering from nightmares. Each nightmare seemed to be worse than the last, but each of them dealt with the same thing...Taylor.
Each morning, she would wake up in a pool of sweat, scared and crying.Tracy was at a loss. Her daughter would be leaving in the morning and she couldn't imagine her being by herself in NY and then Mexico. Who would be there to hold her at night when the nightmares became too much? Who would place a cool towel on her head and neck, to calm her down because she'd wake completely drenched in sweat? Who would reassure her and tell her it would be ok, when she thought that she would be alone forever?
Tracy couldn't imagine not being there with her. She talked to her daughters to let them know that she would be accompanying Karlie over the next few weeks. They all understood. Everyone's number one priority was to get Karlie back on track and in better health, mentally.
Morning came soon as Kristine drove Karlie and Tracy to the airport. As they took their seats on the plane, Karlie grabbed her mother's hand.
"Thank you for coming, mom."
"I'll always be here for you Karlie. Whenever you need me, I'm just a phone call or a plane ride away, don't ever forget that."
The model smiled at her mom as she placed her earbuds in her ears and laid back in her seat.
They soon arrived in NY. The feeling of being back was bittersweet. She hadn't been back in weeks. The last time she was there, her morning was filled with love and a promising future with the love of her life, by evening, everything came crashing down.
Tracy stepped into the apartment and headed to the guest room to place her bags down. As she walked down the hall, she saw a lot of pictures all over of Karlie and Taylor. She wasn't sure how Karlie would react when she saw them herself, but she would find out soon enough. As she was walking back to the living room, she saw Karlie sitting on the couch, holding a framed picture in her hands.
"May I?" Tracy asked as she extended her hand, motioning toward the picture.
Karlie handed the picture to her mom, who was now sitting beside her.
"It's a beautiful picture."
"Thanks. We were in Thailand. I had rented a boat and our guide took us on a tour throughout the city."
Karlie reached for another picture.
"This one is when we were in Paris. I guess the Eiffel Tower gives that one away."
They both laughed as Karlie grabbed yet another pic.
"This was in Italy. This trip was a lot of fun. We had our own private villa and we had a salt water pool that had a glass bottom. It was amazing."
Karlie's eyes began to tear up.
"What's wrong Karlie?"
"This was the trip where we placed a picture of us and a message, inside a bottle and threw it into the sea. We wanted the finders of the bottle to see what true love looked like."
Tracy's eyes began to water too, at the sight of her daughter. She quickly grabbed Karlie's hand.
"Come on, let's go get some lunch. I can go for a really greasy slice of NY pizza."
Karlie smiled as she got up and began walking to the door. The two made their way outside and decided to walk. It was a little cold, but it was beautiful. As they made their way to Karlie's favorite pizza place, a city bus drove by with Taylor's face plastered to the side of it, advertising her new album. The model froze in her steps, as her mom grabbed her hand, reassuring her that it was ok.
After lunch, Karlie asked if it was ok that they go back to the apartment. Her mom was fine with that as the two headed back.
--------------
Taylor hadn't left her NYC apartment since the dreadful day at GMA. She had cancelled two interviews that were scheduled because of the embarrassment. She asked Jim if he would take her to get a coffee. She didn't want to walk like she normally would, in fear that she'd be bombarded by the paparazzi with questions about Karlie. To her surprise, their were no paps waiting when she left. They probably figured she wouldn't be coming out anytime soon.
They made their way to the coffee shop. Jim offered to go in for her, but she decided to go herself. As she exited the shop, there she was. Across the street, wearing light blue jeans and a black sweatshirt that said Michelle Pfeiffer across the front, was the love of her life...Karlie.
She looked beautiful. Her hair was flipped off to the side and she was biting her bottom lip as she stared into the distance with her piercing green eyes. Taylor wanted nothing more than to run over to her and throw herself into her arms. But she was too afraid to do it. She rushed back into the SUV and asked Jim to stay there for a minute, as the tears streamed down her face. She just kept watching for as long as she could. She was happy to see that Tracy was with her. Tracy would always be Karlie's number one fan.
The pedestrian light turned green as the model and Tracy began to walk across. At one point Karlie stopped and glanced at the SUV. It was as if she knew that sitting right there, behind the tinted windows, was the love of her life.
Night soon fell, as Karlie made her way to bed. Tracy knew that another emotional day was waiting to be had, since Karlie would be meeting Miss Simpson in the morning.
The two made their way to the huge office building. Karlie couldn't seem to stop shaking. Her only comfort was her mother's hand, holding on to hers.
The receptionist greeted Karlie and directed her down to the office. As she began to walk, she suddenly snapped back, as Tracy hadn't moved.
"Mom, are you coming?"
"I wasn't sure you wanted me to. I was going to wait here."
"No, I want you with me. I can't do this alone."
The two made their way to the office, where the door was partially open. The model tapped on the door as the voice on the other side told her to come in.
Karlie introduced her mother to Miss Simpson.
Miss Simpson motioned for them both to have a seat as she began the session.
Karlie spoke of everything she had been feeling since the last time she spoke to the therapist. Miss Simpson felt that Karlie had a breakthrough in St. Louis. She was very confident that the model was headed into the right direction. Before the session was over, Karlie asked when it would be ok to see Taylor. Miss Simpson was strongly against the idea. Although she made progress, she still had a ways to go.
"Miss Simpson, listen, I'm asking out of common courtesy. Your my therapist and I appreciate you wanting to help me. But, I'm a grown woman and if I want to see her, then I will. I'm just looking to you for guidance."
"Karlie, let's meet halfway on this. You'll be leaving for Mexico tomorrow. I want you to increase your sessions to twice a week until you return. That'll give us four sessions to make you more stable. Depending on where you're at mentally, upon your return, will decide if I give the green light for you to see her. Deal?"
"Ughhhh, yes. Deal."
As they made their way out of the office and to the reception area, Tracy said she forgot something. She asked Karlie to wait as she made her way back to see Miss Simpson. She quickly told the therapist that there was a crucial piece of info that she needed to know, to help Karlie's healing process. She asked if she wound be able to call her later that night, to which Miss Simpson agreed.
By morning, Karlie and Tracy wee in their way to Mexico. Tracy had spoken to Miss Simpson after Karlie went to sleep. The therapist agreed that this information about Karlie's dad and her previous therapist, answered a lot of questions. She thanked Tracy for this valuable information as she began to process her plan of getting the closure Karlie needs.
