Chapter 22.

Well anyway... I got up and walked to the front door.

"You guys wanna go for a walk?" I looked at River and the girls.

"Sure" River smiles, the girls nod their heads.

We all went behind a tree, got undressed and shifted into our wolves. We howled racing into the meadows, I smelled the lovely scents of nature. The girls laid down on the grass, shutting their eyes, I smiled at them, watching as they rest. I heard River growl, I raced over to him.

"What's wrong?" I asked concerned, looking around.

"Alice go back to the pups! Hunters!" He growls, my eyes widen and my first reaction was race to the girls.

I turned and raced to them, I stood over them, protecting them, hiding them. River races beside me, we looked around, I caught a hunter at the side of my eye. We saw more come.. About 8-10 of them, what did they want, why is there so many. Some had guns, some had knives, some had sliver and some had daggers. I was scared... Not only for me.. But for the pups and River... I don't want to lose them.

"Mummy what's happening?" I heard the little girls voices.

"Shhhh.. Don't let them hear you angels" I whispered to them, they saw the pain in my eyes.

They laid back down, hidden deep in the grass, I knew they were safe as long as they stayed there. I had to call for help... I called the first person.

*Connor? Wake up! I need help! Hunters meadow now!* I yelped out to him.

*I'm on my way Alice! Hang on!* He yelps back, I could hear the fear in his voice.

I wasn't paying attention, when I looked back I saw a hunter race towards me, sliver blade in his hand. My eyes widen as I watch him get closer to me, my body froze, I yelped. I shut my eyes, I heard a loud whimper, I opened my eyes and saw River in front of me. I saw as the sliver blade pierced through his chest, the blood pouring out of him, I cried out watching as he falls to the floor. I cried, I went by his side, he looks at me and smiles.

"I love you Alice..." Was his last words, he took his last breath and his eyes closed, his chest not moving once.

"River!!!" I cried, I kept nudging his still body, the tears running down my cheeks.

"I can't lose you! Not like this! River come back! Please...." I whimpered, I felt a struck of pain go through my chest, my lip trembles.

I felt as anger built up inside me, my eyes went red and my teeth became larger. It was like a monster had taken over my body, taken control of me, I turned around. Pure hatred running through my mind, I looked at the guy who killed River, I took slow steps towards him. I got close to him, looking him in the eyes, I growled, jumping on him and snapping his neck in half.

"How could you kill him!!" I screamed at the hunters, but my voice was different, sorta dark and low.

I walked over to another hunter, I opened my jaws ready to break his neck, but I got stopped by my brother.

"Alice! Snap out of it!" He growls, his paw slapping my face slightly, I shook my head, looking at him.

"You better leave hunters.. I will not tell you again... Unless you wanna end up like your buddy over there..." Connor growls, he turns looking at them, they turn around running off into the forest.

"How could you let them go!" I snapped at Connor, he growls at me.

"Why did you kill that man!" He snaps back at me, I whimpered, putting my ears back.

"He killed River..." I whispered softly, Connor went silent... He looks at me.

"What do you mean 'they killed River'?" He asks, I growled and got up, I walked to Rivers body.

"Look Connor! They killed him! And it's all my fault!" I cried, Connor looks at the body and shakes his head.

"No Alice! It's not your fault don't blame yourself for this!" He cries at me, he goes over to me, giving me a warm hug.

"But.. I should have paid attention Connor! If I had! He wouldn't be dead!!" I whimpered to him, the tears streaming down my face.

"Shhh Alice.. It's not your fault.. Please don't blame yourself..." Connor speaks softly, his soothing calm voice.

I cried onto Connors shoulder, I hated myself, I wanted to die.. I felt like it was all my fault. If I hadn't gone out to the meadow, if I had paid attention... Maybe he would still be alive. I took a deep breath, we had to take the girls back... I'm glad they were far apart from us so they didn't have to see what has just happened. I went over to them, picking them up and putting them on my back, as I walked beside Connor, I thought about River.. He was a great friend.

"Mumma what happened to uncle River?" They looked around, confused, I frowned, sighing.

"He's in a better place now..." I sucked in my breath, holding back the tears, the girls smiles fade away and they hugged me tightly.

We got home, the girls went back to their caregivers, I went back to the meadow. I went to Rivers motionless body, I touched his cheek with my paw, the tears dripping down my cheeks. I did long, sad, painful howls, I said goodbye to River as I dragged his body under a tree, near the river we met. I gave him one last goodbye, I turned around walking away slowly, the tears still running down my face. I walked home, dragging my feet to my bedroom, I saw Adam lay on the bed watching t.v, I walked into the bathroom. I took a warm shower and got dressed for bed, I walked out the bathroom and dumped myself on the bed. Adam had no clue what has just happened.. But I'll tell him tomorrow.. Cause right now... It hurts too much, I shut my eyes falling asleep.
