Part 3:

Words: 1186

It was Friday, meaning the charity dinner was the next night. You had already arranged for a babysitter to come over and look after your kids and Robert had given you a dress to wear, but you weren't allowed to look at it until Saturday.

Jason avoided you, like you had with him when you first started working there. He never once looked at you and you could have sworn your work load had at least doubled. It was as if he was getting pay back for what you had done to him. This only cemented the thought that he hated you.

It took you longer than expected to get ready, with your kids excited to meet the new babysitter. The dress you had to wear was long and black. It was figure hugging down to your hips but then floated down to the floor, with a slit going up to your thigh. You hadn't worn anything this nice since before you had your kids and it made you feel great.

You kissed Luke and daisy on the head and hurried out to Roberts's car, since you had no idea where the Dilaurentis manor was. You were obviously the only one, as when you arrived, there were a lot of cars waiting to get in. a huge gate lead you to the start of the manor, and through the trees you could start to see the lights of the house. As you got closer it got bigger and bigger. The building was very elegant and posh, and clearly a new building since there was nothing so regal when you last lived here.

You got out and followed the crowd of people who were entering. A huge, staircase lead up to the floor above, a cream carpet covering the marble floor. Your heels clicked as you strolled around, more surprised that he would be interested in things like this. The Jason you had known never cared for things so materialistic. He had liked simple things, not mansions.

It only highlighted how much you had both changed.

There were a pair of antique looking wooden doors, with glass panels that seemed to extend twice as high as a normal door. Inside you could see tables and people wandering around trying to find their seats.

"May I have your tickets?" One of the workers said to you. Robert handed them over and the guy motioned for you to continue into the dining room.

The room was a lot bigger inside than it looked through the doors. There were at least 15 large round tables, big enough to fit 9-10 people on. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling and the light reflected off them so brightly, you wondering if it was glass or some other gemstone, like diamond.

You had been handed a coloured piece of card with a number on it.

"It's our table." Robert explained. Your table ended up being in the centre of the room, having the best view of the stage where they were wheeling out various objects under sheets, so that no one could see them.

The room quickly filled up and it was just your luck that Jason and Nicole were on your table as well. They sat at the back, where as you sat on the left. Other people you didn't know soon sat next to you and you figured they were even higher up than Jason, by the way he was addressing them.

"Are you ok?" Robert asked. You nodded, sending him a quick smile. The show soon began, and the first half of the charity dinner kicked off. They were auctioning away the things on the stage. There was various signed memorabilia, guitars, golf clubs, and statues. However all of them were way out of your price range. Apparently to everyone else this was a bargain, even to Robert, and you suddenly recognised that you were in a completely different world to the normal one you had been living in. this was one where everyone was poor unless they had three cars and a butler.

You felt like you were playing a character, like you didn't belong here and you grew very uncomfortable at the money that was being wasted.

Your ex had contacted you, saying he lost his job and therefore, the money you were getting from him to help clothe and feed your kids would stop until he got a new one. This put a lot of strain on you and you had no money to spend. You couldn't pay all your bills fully and you knew the companies would lose patience with you, but there wasn't much you could do.

You had stopped using your car, not able to pay for the petrol and you couldn't pay for any of your kid's school trips. The last thing was the most upsetting to you, you would starve, if it meant your kids could have a childhood like everyone else's.

You were abruptly brought back into the room, away from your thoughts, once the auction had ended. It was then the food was brought out.

"So, y/n." Nicole started, a confused look spread across your face as you wondered why she would talk to you. "You didn't see anything you liked in the first half?" you knew she was doing this to get at you. She had noticed the change in Jason since you had arrived and maybe she knew who you were.

"No, not in this half. I mean, it was all great stuff, I just don't want to deprive others of having it." You were satisfied with your answer and a few unknown people commented on how kind that was. You didn't want them to know about your situation, afraid of the embarrassment, or worse, you could lose your job. You weren't sure how far these people would go. After you had eaten, you decided to go and get some fresh air. You walked out of the room, and out of the mansion completely until you were sat on the front steps.

"I noticed how uncomfortable you were." Jason stated as he sat down beside you.

"It's a completely different world to the one I live in." you commented, pretending everything was fine between the two of you.

"They love money. It's what makes them happy."

"Them? Are you not happy?" if he said he was, you wouldn't think any more about it, letting him get on with his life, you would probably find a job elsewhere.

"no." you turned to him, seeing the truth as he spoke. He held a champagne glass in his hand, and wore a suit with a bow tie. He looked like someone from the 1920s and the thought made you laugh. He wore a hurt expression at your reaction and you had to quickly stop.

"I'm sorry, you look ridiculous." He laughed as well, but it never reached his eyes, like something inside was stopping him. "I thought you were happy. You have a successful business, all the luxuries life can offer and an amazing girlfriend." You quoted him.

"I don't have you."
