Chapter 15 - The Beacons of Minas Tirith

"Don't worry, I'll go easy on you." I said with a smirk as Merry grabbed his small sword. We were practicing his fighting skills out in the sun. I knew he just could not stop thinking about his friend so this would make him think about something else and also practice his fighting, because he would undoubtedly need it in the days to come. He nodded and I waited for him to charge. He took a step closer to me, bringing his sword close to me but I blocked it with one of my daggers. I kept stopping his swings because I was very fast. But Merry was very good at it, and I could tell he was trying to make me tired. I smiled and took out my second dagger. He looked at me astonished and I brought both of my daggers to his neck. He quickly stopped them and I smiled at him. He was fast, which was always good in a fight, and he was also small. So small that probably many Orcs wouldn't even realize he is there. I raised my hands up in defeat and he looked at me with a proud smile on his face.

"Well, Master Meriadoc, I am glad to see that you can clearly fight for yourself." I said.

"Now I can go into battle with you!" He said excitedly as he looked at Aragorn, who was sitting on the ground, and I. I stopped smiling as he said that and taught to myself that I did not really want him to fight. I knew that that is what he wanted, but I was so afraid to loose someone else...

"I'll take it from here." A soft voice interrupted my thoughts. I looked up and saw Legolas pull out his sword. "Don't worry, I'll go easy on you." He mocked me with a smirk on his face.

"I'm going to teach you a lesson." I said as I pointed my dagger at him.

"Hm, and what's that?" He questioned.

"That I'm better than you." I replied with a smirk.

Without warning me, he brought his sword to my neck but I quickly blocked his weapon with my two daggers. He swung it at me but I bent down and tried to touch his legs. He jumped and I just had time to roll on my side to get away from him. He laughed at me and I looked at him, spinning my daggers intensely in my hands. I charged at him but he kept blocking my hits. Suddenly I felt myself collapse on the ground, well on top of him, actually. We both started laughing and he rested his hands on my waist. I looked into his deep blue eyes and smiled at him.

"Come on you two lovebirds." Aragorn said and I looked up at him.

"I was just checking to see if he was hurt." I told him after I stood up. I felt Legolas grab my hand and I smiled. I looked into the distance and thought I saw a fire in the mountains. I furrowed my brows and looked intently at it, my mind processing what I was actually seeing. "Aragorn." I said and he looked at me questioningly. "The beacons are lit!" I said as I pointed to the beacon. He turned around before he started running towards the great hall. I let go of Legolas' hand and started running after him as fast as I could. I rushed up the steps and arrived behind him as he burst through the doors.

"The beacons of Minas Tirith! The beacons are lit!" He shouted, interrupting the King and his counsellors. "Gondor calls for aid." He said. Legolas arrived beside me and grabbed my hand again. We all waited nervously for the king to say something as he stared intensely at Aragorn.

"And Rohan will answer!" Theoden answered after a moment. "Muster the Rohirrim!" He said and a soldier rang the bell outside.

Everyone ran to get their things ready as fast as possible. I followed Legolas to our room so that I could get my bow and arrows, that I had left there for the day. He opened the door and I ran up to my things. I slung my quiver onto my back and looked at Legolas, who was staring at me nervously.

"Is everything alright?" I asked him. He slowly walked up to me and gently took my hand in his. He kissed it softly before looking into my eyes.

"Gi melin, meleth nín." He said before pulling me into a slow but passionate kiss. "Le melithon anuir." He whispered before exiting the room. The way he had said it made my heart ache. He said it like it would be one of the last times he told me that.... Why was he talking like that? It only made me more nervous. I took a deep breath before following him out the door. I shut the door behind me and walked outside. I saw that Aragorn had taken my horse out and I smiled nervously at him when he saw me. I stroked my horse's dark mane and listened to Aragorn talk with Eowyn.

"You ride with us?" Aragorn asked her, confused.

"Just to the encampment. It's tradition for the women of the court to farewell the men." She replied. I looked at them and saw Aragorn look at her horse. He uncovered something and looked at her questioningly. I looked at what he had uncovered and saw Eowyn's sword. Did she want to fight? How could she want such a thing. I hate being on a battlefield, I only do it because I love to protect the ones I love. I stopped staring at them and focused on what I was doing.

"The men have found their captain. They will follow you into battle, even to death. You have given us hope." She told him. I mounted my horse and made my way towards Legolas and Gimli.

"Horsemen, hmph!" I wish I could muster a legion of Dwarves, fully armed and filthy." Gimli grumbled. I chuckled to myself at the word filthy. Legolas looked at me and smiled nervously. I quickly looked down at my hands, not wanting to look at his sad eyes.

Again, I'm sorry this is so short and boring, the next one will be better (I hope)!!

Thank you all so much for reading this!
