Chapter Seventeen

As I skip through the empty halls 30 minutes before everyone else arrives, thoughts rush through my mind about Austin.

He's too good for me. He's a popular kid. He can go for much better girls than me, yet he chases after me out of all the people.

My hands fluttered up to the beautiful locket he gave me.

"As long as you wear the locket, it shows that you're my girl. So the other guys will back off."

My girl.

My cheeks became a light shade of pink. I'm his girl.

Still have lots of time before class starts.

Before I knew it, my feet were making their way to the school's roof. I found the place a few days ago. It's like a mini garden at the roof top. As I open the door to the roof, a cool November breeze hit my face. It's getting colder...

This is where I like I wind out, think, relax.  

Forget.

I dropped my messenger school bag on the floor and collapsed on the bench covered in green, mossy vine. My hands, again, went up to my necklace and started twirling the golden chain around my finger.

A sudden thought hit me, I was happy. I was happy! Life was perfect for me right now, and I didn't even notice it.

8:42am

Crap, school starts in 3 minutes.. I better hurry.

The day passed on extremely slow because Austin's family had to leave the town for the day. That meant I had to hang out with Tyler and his other friends all day... I still remember Austin's words before he left,

"Stay away from Skylar got it?"

Not that I would go near that creeper in the first place. I can't wait till 5 when he comes back. The last bell finally rang. So did my phone telling me i got a new text.

Meet me at the lake at the park at 4. -Austin

Hmm that's strange, I didn't know he was back already. Oh well, I started walking to the place he told me to meet him. There's no point going back home now, it was already 3:45pm.

~15 minutes later~

Hmmm where can he be, he's late...

"Hey."

A familiar but cold voice reached my ear, I shivered. What the hell is Skylar doing here?

"Wh-what are you doing here?" I stammered.

"You really thought Austin was back? That text was from me."

What is going on?! Why would he want me to go to the lake?

"Listen." He continued, "I know I started off with the wrong foot but, will you give me a chance? I promise I'll treat you right, and stay with you..."

Our faces were close together. Too close together. My face got burning hot. There's something about his grey, cold eyes that make them so... Attractive. His hands cupped around my cheeks. My mind slowly drifted away.... Forgetting everything.
