(A U-Haul zooms by on the freeway. In it, a girl named Cathy Everdeen peeks out of her window, attempting to become accustomed to her new surroundings, as her father, Eric, drives.)

Cathy (in voice-over): "A fresh start"...he said. "A fresh start will do you good". It baffles me how naïve my father can be at times. I was doing perfectly fine back at home. Ok. I'll be honest. I was just cruising. But that doesn't mean I wanted to pack up my belongings, say goodbye to my friends, what little of them I had, and move to some two-bit town I never heard of before. And in my senior year? The horror....

(Cathy's sight catches a sign that reads "Welcome to Murder, Massachusetts.")

Cathy: Tell me again why we are moving to a town called Murder... It's bad enough we're in the Northeast.

Eric: Supposedly, it's named after some guy who fought in the Civil War or something like that. And you know why we're relocating. We needed this job. I make in a week what I made at my old job in a month. Plus college is expensive as shit. How else do you expect to get into Harvard?

Cathy: Not by going to that school. I mean, Dad. The tuition is ridiculous. Between that, the car, and the home, how are we managing to afford all this?

Eric: Hey. What did I say? Your only worry in life is getting good grades and staying out of trouble. I'll take care of the rest. Okay?

Cathy: Okay, Dad...

Eric: Well...here we are. We've made it.

(They pull up to their new home. They get out of the U-Haul.)

Eric: Well, Cathy. This is your home for the next year or so.

Cathy: Is it? From the looks of it, the brochure was super outdated.

Eric: Don't think of it as...old. Think of it as...ancient. This house has a lot of stories it could tell you...if you listen.

Cathy: Uh huh. No way. I'm out of here. There is no way in hell I am spending a year living out The Amityville Horror.

Eric: Hey. Let's make the best of it. There's nothing a fresh coat of paint-

Cathy: And some fumigation...

Eric: -can't do. Now, come on. Let's go.

(They open the door and look around the home. Then they go into the U-Haul and begin unloading. Pretty soon, the entire house is furnished. Cathy begins putting up family photos. She stumbled upon one of her and her deceased mother, May.)

Eric: She was...a beautiful person.

Cathy: Yep. You know, the entire ride, I thought about what she would say if she was still here.

Eric: Oh. I know what she would have said. "What the hell, Eric? Did you buy this house on Craiglist?"

Cathy: "You know, this is why I should have been in charge of the house hunting. Look at this place!
It looks like the set of a Hitchcock film."

(They both laugh. Eric puts his hand on Cathy's shoulder.)

Cathy: What time is it?

(Cathy checks her phone. It's 11:33 AM.)

Cathy: I'm gonna take a short nap and a quick shower. Orientation begins at 3.

Eric: Ok. I'll finish unpacking.

(Cathy goes up the staircase to her room but stops and turns around.)

Cathy: Dad?...

Eric: Yes?

Cathy: Do you think...I'll like it here?

Eric: Cathy...I think you're gonna love it.
