~You~

Run.

FASTER.

Those were the only thoughts zooming through your mind as you jumped over another dead tree.

They were faster.

Don't give up. Don't let them win again.

Your path is zigzagged as you tried to out-maneuver your pursers.

But they weren't human.

Your lungs and muscles burned, but that wouldn't stop you. You pushed yourself to run faster, sweat dripping into your eyes and causing tears to stream relentlessly down your cheeks. Behind you, you could hear the hisses and snickers of the hungry demons, playing with you in a game of cat and mouse... Or better yet, Wolf and prey.

The forest did nothing to help you, seeking to hinder your movements whenever it could, and making you stumble further and further into the darkness.

"Do you really think you can outrun us?"

No, you didn't, but there was no way you wouldn't try. It went against your nature to stay put, to willingly give your body and soul to those monsters.

To die.

You hadn't even seen it, the branch had hung low enough to catch you by the chin, snapping your head back with a loud

Crack!

This was it. The end of the line. How foolish, you had given your all in running from two demons, only to be stopped by a petty tree branch.

Pathetic.

That was the last word you thought before your world turned black...
You didn't even have time to feel the pain.

~Sebastian~

The butler's head twisted to the loud sound, immediately assuming it was a dead tree being broken. Were there truly criminals out and about at this hour? They must have needed sleep to survive, didn't they?

Sebastian would never truly be able to understand humans...

Nevertheless, he shot out of his room, silent as wind blowing through sheets on a sunny day as he ran out the door nearest to the noise. He followed the vibrations in the air, tracing them back to the site of the intruders. Though he couldn't sense any humans... He did sense two demons before it was too late.

Sebastian growled at them menacingly, earning their attention. Were they here for his young master? Did they truly believe they had a chance to live if they did such a thing?

He didn't even notice the broken girl on the ground.

Two pairs of frantically glowing orbs turned to him, followed by possessive hisses. "Leave! This one is ours!"

Theirs? He narrowed his eyes at them in warning.

"That won't be happening, I'm afraid."

The demons glanced at each other, confusion marring their human forms.

"We caught her fairly, what makes you think we will just allow you to run off with our prize?"

One of them padded silently forward, crouching down to the soul that was barely clinging to its corpse.

He took a step back, the scent of her soul finally hitting him. Sebastian had been so focused upon his own master, that he didn't rationalize that there may have been another soul in play. It seemed he was in the wrong this time. His body disagreed.

"I didn't think such things, but you are on my territory, you see... And I want that one." He argued, though he knew such a petulant excuse would not be taken lightly.

The other demons snickered as they began to circle him, their lips curled up in sneers. They sniffed the air hungrily, looking at Sebastian with malice.

"Ah? A mere little Crow... You must be starving to say such nonsense. What a pity..."

Sebastian was visibly unfazed by their words, though he did remedy them on one thing.

"Raven."

With that one word, he shed his human form in a flurry of feathers. Around him, the Wolves began to growl.

But they would never be howling to the moon again.
