~You~
Your hands trembled as you slipped the letter out of the envelope. Whether it was fear or anger, you couldn't tell, but every cell in your hands wanted to rip apart the fragile paper, wanted it to not be real. But against your wishes, there was her request, plain as day.
"N-no..."
You dropped the letter back on the desk and got up, beginning to pace. Your father's words came back to you, mocking you for your foolishness.
If only you were really dead.
You halted due to the clearing of a throat behind you, and you turned slowly to the cold and hard blue eye of the Queen's Watchdog. Gone was the protective and comforting air, replaced with the authority of a noble.
"It wasn't a yes or no question, (Y/n). I thought I had told you to tell me everything. I don't recall you mentioning your own death." He sat back casually in his chair, looking at you coolly.
You clenched your teeth together and mirrored his attitude. You can pretend that what Sebastian did to you devastated you, but this wasn't the time to be a damsel in distress. You were more than this. Your time here at this manor had brought you back to your roots, and you looked to Ciel as an opponent. If you lost, you would die. If you won, you would gain a greater freedom.
You were done with living as another poor pile of bones on the streets. You were done with your life after your father died. You were done running from the demons. Your demons.
The Queen wanted you dead. You knew this, it was one of the reasons why your father always had you at his side. It's the same reason he was dead. Your mother disappeared without a trace. Why she was requesting the Dog to investigate made you feel unsure, as the only reason could be that those demons who chased you here weren't wild.
Your memories steeled you with a determination that made Ciel's eyes widen.
"No, I didn't. I also made sure to not tell you who I was before my days as a rejected orphan on the streets."
Ciel leaned forward with childish curiosity, leaning slightly on his cane. Noticing this, you looked him straight in the eye and walked around the grand desk.
"I used to be the child of royalty, Ciel. I used to have a title, just like you." You picked up the envelope carrying the seal of the Queen, and looked at it as if looking back at your past. "My father was one of the Queen's most trusted advisors. More loyal than any other pawn in her political game..."
You trailed off, and crushed the hard paper in your fist, looking back at Ciel with red in your vision. "He was a great actor. He used everyone - no, everything - he could get his chains wrapped around. Including Demons. Everything he did, he did using disposable pawns that he always found a way to put a blame on, and kill in the end."
You had found your way to the window, but your eyes were unseeing as they were pointed to some dandelions in the grass.
"The Queen was blind and oblivious to his ways. Until he was found out..." Your eyes slid to the Earl with vengeance. "...by her Dog."
Ciel was captured by your words, indulging in them like he would chocolate or tea. The moment you mentioned the Watchdog, he sat up straighter, surprise and dismay in his one good eye.
From that point on, you didn't look away. "Father quickly caught wind of this information... But no matter, he was too late. Mother had disappeared. I was a mere child at the time, young enough to not understand what was happening. My father had become overprotective, not letting me leave his side. He put more pawns to work, trying to disprove his ways by using the same methods. Those that were still alive turned on him, and Father had to either bribe them or kill them to keep his life as it was."
