~Sebastian~
He hesitated, not wanting to leave his quarters just yet. Tucking her in once more, he finally peeled himself away from her side and out the door. He had work to do, anyhow.
As he walked to the kitchen to prepare for breakfast, he felt the familiar call of his master fill his mind. What was he doing awake at this hour? Sebastian sighed and hurried to the master bedchamber, where Ciel was sure to have woken from another nightmare.
"Sebastian!"
He entered without knocking, arriving at his master's side. "You called, young master?"
Ciel glared at him, and Sebastian frowned before taking a half step back.
"Where the blazes have you been? You've ignored my call for over ten minutes, now! Are you willingly going against the contract?"
The young Earl looked tired and displeased, but what stood out most to Sebastian was his confusion. He bowed deeply, mumbling an apology.
"Not at all, my lord. I was caught up with my other duties..," He replied dryly, knowing he was going to hear an earful from the child.
But that didn't happen.
"What 'other' duties?"
The question threw him, as he had never asked about what Sebastian did outside of missions and food. He didn't much care then, so why now?
He sighed, "Nothing that you need to worry about, young master. What is it that you need?"
Ciel crossed his arms and leaned back in his pillows, the soft thud louder than normal.
"An acceptable answer. What were you doing that made you forget about me, Sebastian. I'm quite curious." His tone was light, but his eyes were narrowed with suspicion.
Sebastian straightened, not looking at his master as he replyed honestly. "There is another guest in the manor, and I've brought it upon myself to look after her. She has been here for little over three days..."
The bicolored eyes of the Earl widened in dismay, and immediately he threw back the sheets. "Take me to her, Sebastian. That's an order," he added before Sebastian could protest.
The lavender eye glowed and Sebastian pursed his lips in irritation. Though he knew that this was bound to happen, so he shook it off and lead the way to his quarters, knowing the girl would be asleep. Their footsteps filled the halls and grated on Sebastian's nerves. He could have at least waited until he could ask for her name...
Upon entering the bedchamber, Sebastian kept the door open for the young lord. His gaze was now trained on her, and the way she seemed so peaceful when she slept. That surely wasn't the case when she was awake.
"You've kept her in your own quarters?" Ciel's voice was indignant, as if this was the worst possible place to keep her.
Sebastian merely nodded as he watched his master walk up to the bedside. To the butler's surprise, and utter shock, Ciel brushed away a strand of tangled hair from the girl's cheek, almost affectionately.
"Why is this girl here, Sebastian?"
That was the question, wasn't it? For once in his "human" life, Sebastian shifted in discomfort and fidgeted with his gloves.
"She was unconscious when I found her, young master. Since she was already on Phantomhive property, I thought it would be fine to help her... I had no other choice, actually."
He mumbled his words near the end, knowing he cut out the fact that she was being chased by demons. He watched cautiously as Ciel stepped back, and turned to him.
"Put her in a proper guest room and alert me when she wakes up. I want to speak with the human that somehow got caught in a demon's good graces." He reached the door and glance back with an evil smirk. "Who knows, maybe I can use her to punish you~."
Sebastian didn't want to look back, finding himself slightly frightened by the child's words. He looked back to the girl lying obliviously in his bed, and he could only think of one thing.
What have I gotten myself into now?
