The Earl stopped his signing at the sound of a soft knock on his study door. He sighed quietly in relief at the distraction, finishing his signature and putting the pen down before answering.

The moment she entered, Ciel shot up from his chair. Her usually near to perfect dress was ragged, and her (h/c) hair was a mess. She lacked the beautifully cruel aura that he had grown to respect, and his unveiled eye ticked in anger.

"Ciel... Sebastian...he-"

Before she could finish, he had slammed his fist against the cherry wood desk. "What did he do to you?"

She leaned back against the door, and slid to the ground. Panic ripped through the young Earl, and he rushed to her side. Damn that demon... He had specifically ordered him to keep her unharmed at all costs. This was the third time now that Sebastian acted against his orders. (Y/n)'s accusations against him have yet to be proven wrong, so he had no choice but to believe the facts she presented him.

That, and he liked seeing the oh-so-perfect butler keeled over in defeat.

He looked down at her in worry, ideas about all the things he would do to that damn demon danced in his mind. But when her (e/c) eyes met his he knew that she was his main priority.

"In the hall.... He pinned me to the wall and..." Her words were choked back and she looked away. That was all he needed to hear. He brushed a strand of soft hair out of her eyes and gently tilted her face towards him.

"I never knew my Butler was so faulted."

She didn't even nod to his words, but her eyes closed shut. Ciel helped her stand, and led her to his chair.

If he was honest with himself, he didn't exactly know what to make of her. At first, she seemed weak and shy, entirely docile. After a few days, she had become a young Lady with cruelty and heartlessness that rivaled his own.

Despite this, he saw how she interacted with the rest of the servants. She was obviously affecting their lives greatly, and in a good way. She seemed to look out for them at all costs, but Sebastian was a different story. She acted like a true demon around him, cool and indifferent.

She intrigued Ciel, especially since she treated him differently than everyone else. Nor with indifference or submission, and yet not like a close friend. It was odd, and he couldn't explain it easily. Perhaps, he could say that she treated him as an equal. Which was all the more confusing.

The Earl looked to the door, lifted his eye patch, and made the call.

"Sebastian, come here."

~You~

You heard him say the words, and you opened one eye to watch what happened. Your mouth twitched upwards, knowing that butler was bound to get an earful.

When he arrived two seconds late, he entered without knocking. He didn't have to knock, but Ciel's "tch" let you know that he hadn't missed it.

"Young Master, what seems to be the pro-"

"Shut it, Sebastian. I don't have time for your tediousness. Just answer me; What gave you the idea that it would be fine to go against my orders?"

Sebastian glanced at you, and since Ciel wasn't looking, you smirked back in response. He eyes narrowed and he looked back to Ciel.

"I haven't gone against any orders, my Lord."

Ciel narrowed his eyes and pointed at you angrily. "You haven't? Then how do you explain what happened to Lady (Y/n)? Was it just an accident? If so, that's another problem. How dare you call yourself a Butler of the Phantomhive Manor if you can't keep one guest unharmed by your own hands!"

Sebastian stayed silent, keeping his face expressionless. You could hardly keep yourself from grinning. You kept your amusement tampered, and gently laid a hand on Ciel's shoulder.

"Ciel... He didn't just harm me with his hands..." Your words trailed off and you looked at Sebastian with broken disdain.

Ciel immediately understood, and his eye became as cold and hard as steel.

"Sebastian, this is an order. You are to treat (Y/n) as you would me, until my say. That means you obey her, you are to be by her side and mine, and you do not lie to her. Do you understand me, Sebastian? Or do you need me to enforce my order differently?"

He played with a dart on the desk, and you smiled lightly. With this, you would be able to order Sebastian to do anything... Perfect. The Butler glanced to you in barely concealed fear, and you wrapped your arms around Ciel's waist, propping your head gingerly on his shoulder.

"...Yes, my Lord. I understand." The Butler had dropped to one knee and brought his hand to his heart. How noble... Heh. In your arms, Ciel had stiffened, but didn't push you away.

Perhaps you should test your new power now. "You are dismissed, Sebastian. Leave us."

Ciel started to protest, but you tightened your arms around him. He cut off, and a few moments later, the door clicked shut. Once he was gone, you slipped your arms away slowly and sat back into the chair.

"Why did you dismiss him?"

His voice sounded unstable, as if he was still shaken by your hold. You hadn't enjoyed it, but it helped you give the desired affect on the Demon. It proved that your earlier words rang true.

"I dismissed him because he was ready to go. Admit it, Ciel. He had no reason to be here anymore."

"He deserves to be punished for treating you like he has."

"And he was. If not... Then he will be."

He was silent for a moment, before walking to the window. You didn't know what he was thinking about, but you knew by now that when be went the window, it was about something important.

You looked down at the paperwork on his desk, noticing how mostly everything had either "Funtom" or "Phantomhive" on it. Except for a pristine white letter in the corner of the large desk, its seal open.

As you stared at it, you didn't hear his footsteps behind you. Ciel's hand landed on your shoulder, and you looked up to him.

"Actually, there is something else I have to ask you, (Y/n)..." He picked up the letter you were staring at, and handed it to you. "Why is the Queen asking me to look into your death?"
