~Elizabeth~

"Lizzy, why don't you go to your room? Relax for a while."

They were in the parlor, playing another game of chess. Outside, the moon rose high and the wind blew coolly across the windows. Her eyelids were drooping and she fought back a yawn, but she wouldn't leave him tonight. She didn't know why, but she felt that if she didn't leave his side, she would see him again tomorrow. But if she didn't...

"I can't fully relax without you, Ciel..."

Of course, sharing a bed with him would be improper, and unlady-like of her. Sharing a room...that might be awkward... But she just knew she couldn't leave him.

"Oh, come on. This is absurd. You obviously need rest."

It was as if he couldn't understand, that he didn't know why she was so adamant to staying with him. She rubbed her eyes and looked back up to him again. He had an expression of confused concern, making her want to reach out and tell him why she was acting this way. But even she didn't exactly know.

Her worried heart told her that she should convince him to stay with her tonight. Her logical mind told her to do as he says. She was torn on the decision, but one question seemed to settle it for her.

Did she want to see him tomorrow or not?

"Come with me, then. Please, Ciel." She blinked a few times before pouting, pleading with her weary eyes.

"With you? You know I can't."

"Then I'll stay here until you can."

"Why?"

Yes, why? "Because..." If she told him her true reason, he would probably think of her as absurd, dense, a waste of his time and so on... She couldn't tell him the whole truth. "... because I'm scared. I feel safer with you, Ciel."

He grew silent, placing a dark chess piece back on the board and only opened his mouth to whisper, "Check mate..."

She didn't care that she lost again. She just wanted to stay with him, that's all that mattered at the moment. She shifted in the comfy chair, and rubbed her eyes yet again.

"I have some work to do before I can retire. I was hoping to complete that when you were alseep, but I can already tell that won't be happening." Ciel stood from his chair and began walking towards the door.

Lizzy shot out of her chair, and followed quickly behind him, but she said nothing in her exhaustion. She would follow him now, and she grabbed his extended hand before he got too far.

She heard him sigh, but couldn't make out the emotion behind it. Maybe it was for the best. "I'll try not to take long..."

"What must you do?"

"...I need to write a letter."

~Sebastian~

He was still reeling from the fact that he had kissed her. Not so much the kiss itself, but that fact that it was her and it was nice. He wanted to do it again...He wanted to do more. But he held back, promising himself that he wouldn't let himself fall into a heat now. He had things to do, after all, and she was a distraction enough as she is.

He smiled approvingly as he finished his chores and the manor was spotless once more. It was much too late for (Y/n) to be awake now, and his young master was obviously preoccupied with Lady Elizabeth. This might have been the perfect opportunity to visit her.

He sped to one of the back doors where he would usually meet the beautiful feline, and just let everything, all worries and concerns wash away. As soon as he opened the door, he heard her quiet mew.

"Oh, you must be suffering with the cold at this time of night, aren't you?"

****

Unfortunately, the kitten was still a mere animal, and had to sleep. It was fun while it lasted, however, and Sebastian carried the adorable creature back outside, where the young master wouldn't be affected.

One thing was odd, though. He had constantly compared the kitten to (Y/n), even though he's never had an interaction quite like that with her before. But if he had...

His train of thought was halted in his tracks when his master's call filled his mind, and his location blurred in his vision. Why, of all times, was he being called for now? Nevertheless, Sebastian sped quickly to the young Earl's bed chambers, arriving in seconds.

He didn't announce his presence, however, since he immediately noticed that his master was not alone in his bed. He glanced questionably to him, and knelt down on one knee when he was motioned over. He leaned forward and Ciel whispered in his ear a new order that froze him to the spot.

"Dispose of the other guest. Leave no trace of her existence behind in the manor, and burn her to ashes where the fire and smoke will be unnoticed. That's an order."

W-what? Burn (Y/n)...to ashes... If it were a week ago he had received this order, Sebastian might have ignorantly taken it to heart, and smile with triumph. But now, everything was different. So different.

Being a demon bound to his contract, he could only say three words that would destroy the one human he actually desired, forever.

"Yes, my lord."

****

Sebastian stood next to her bed, looking down at her expressionlessly. This was the one order he would willingly reject, but the contract says otherwise. For one last time, however, he sat down beside her, pulled her sleeping form into his arms...

And played with her hair.

She stirred in his arms, but didn't wake as she snuggled closer to him, resting her head sweetly on his chest. Sebastian cherished this moment, and held her dear as she didn't fight him. As she couldn't fight him, or understand that this may be the last time.

After a few moments, he sighed as he stood with her in his arms. It wasn't even his body and mind moving his feet forward, it was the drive to complete the order...that was all. But a sudden thought emerged, and Sebastian was instantly filled with relief.

He calmly walked out the door with (Y/n) in his arms, and didn't come back until he was finished, much later in the night.
