~Ciel~

He watched her carriage roll down the dirt path that cut between the woods, and mentally replayed her goodbye in his mind.

"I'll return, Ciel. I promise."

"...No, it would be better if you never came back, Lizzy."

"What? But...why? I thought you said-"

"Please. I know what I said... I just want you to be happy."

"And I can't be happy without you."

"...Then I can't do anything about it... I'm sorry."

...

"You're not really going to do it, are you?"

"Do what?"

...

"Never mind. Just know Ciel... Remember that I would do anything for you. I love you."

"I love you too, Elizabeth."

"...Do you? If you truly did, would you have surrounded yourself with so much darkness? Fare well, Ciel. I can't say I will miss you, since you've been gone from me for years."

"...Lizzy..."

She had spoken as if this was the last time she would ever see him. As if he no longer had a chance. She was right...the Ciel she had known and loved before had been gone for years. And as he watched her carriage roll away from his view, he realized that she was the last piece of happiness he would ever experience.

Because today was the end. No more stalling. No more waiting.

The wind whipped his hair across his face, and made his suit billow behind him like a flag of surrender. "Sebastian. Did you complete your order?"

He looked up at the demon, and seeing his grim and somber expression, he assumed had his answer and nodded once.

"Then I guess it's over."

"...Young master-"

"It's done. My side of the deal is complete... Those who had brought shame and humiliation to my family name met a worse fate, and the next generation of them now burned down to ashes..."

For a reason he didn't know, he felt like smiling. Like laughing, just to get the last bit of happiness out of his system perhaps. His lips twitched upward and he turned to look blankly at a confused and shocked demon. Ciel closed his eyes, however, and took off his eye patch.

When his lashes fluttered back open, the burning violet mark on his eye was dull and dim, and he stood tall for one last time. His hand let go of his cane, and it fell down the front steps of the estate, finally crumbling on the last one.

"Go ahead. Take it."

Ciel was ready to go. He was ready to disappear.

And so he did, as Sebastian surrounded them in darkness and gave him the kiss of death.

It was painless to the body, but the pure soul had never been in more suffering than what a starving demon can put it through. Little did either know, there is such a thing as a Spirit. This blue nonentity drifted off, floating and being completely free.

Until it was wrapped in pale chains, and dragged back down to the earth, another spirit laughing madly before they both vanished.

~Demon~

Even with the sorrow and the defeat, his soul was the most delicious and favourable soul he had ever had the pleasure of tasting. It was all worth it. Everything he went through. Everything he destroyed.

He had tricked him.

He ate until his hunger was gone, the soul more filling than he initially thought it would be. With it, the demon was filled with specks of pride, anger, and sorrow, but most of all... Innocence. Pure unadulterated innocence. He felt better than he felt in years. Stronger, livelier, satisfied.

But he was no longer Sebastian Michaelis.

The contract seal on his hand chilled and dimmed, waiting for a new soul to call master. The demon still had one more thing to do before he could go back though, and so he set off, leaving the manor and most of the memories behind.

That's how it worked for him. After every contract, he was to leave it all behind. Some memories never left him. Others disappeared immediately.

But the most important memory, was the day he had decided to protect (Y/n). The day he decided to keep her.

<Meanwhile>

~Elizabeth~

She felt empty and alone at that moment. Even Paula couldn't make her smile then. Elizabeth leaned her head against the window, looking out at the trees rushing past.

A sudden sharp pain erupted in her chest, and she shot up in her seat, clutching the flesh above her heart.

"My Lady? What's wrong!?"

Elizabeth tuned out her cries. She was fine, but she had a feeling that someone else definitely wasn't.

"Turn around. I have to go back."

"What? But you'd be late for-" The maid wasn't able to finish her statement before Elizabeth made the decision. She kicked open the door and jumped out of the carriage, landing gracefully before taking off at a sprint. Behind her, Paula's cries became distant.

Every step she took made the pain grow stronger, and she knew that she wouldn't find Ciel alive.
