Prologue:

I walked into the BAU feeling like I was on top of the world. The day before, I finally got my first PhD, which meant, I got to drop the SSA and could officially be introduced as Dr. Mel Reid.

"Hey."

My husband, Spencer Reid, was the first to greet me that morning. I smiled and hugged him as he stood up.

"Hey Dr. Reid 2.0." our fellow BAU agent and friend, Derek Morgan, said, giving me a fist bump. "Congrates on the PhD."

"Thanks, Morgan." I said. "I'm pretty happy myself. Hey, where's Uncle Hotch? He said he had a surprise for me or something."

"He should be in his office." Spencer said.

"'Kay. Thanks." I said.

I walked to my uncle's office and knocked on the open door. He turned and looked at me.

My uncle, Aaron Hotchner, was one of the longest standing members on the BAU, along with Spencer, Derek, Penelope Garcia and Jennifer Jareau (JJ). He was a sweet guy, he just didn't show that side much.

"Hello there, Dr. Mel Reid." he said.

I laughed.

"Hey. You called last night. You wanted to see me?" I said.

"Yes. I did. I have some more big news for you." he said. He stood up as he spoke. "Morgan recently moved out of his old office and he requested that I give it to you."

I covered my mouth, surprised. I couldn't believe it!

"Are you serious?!" I exclaimed.

Uncle Hotch nodded. Quickly, I raced over and gave him a hug. He chuckled and hugged me back.

"Let me show you to the office."

Uncle Hotch led me out of his office and towards my new office. Once we got to the door, I noticed the first thing that made me smile.

"Dr. Melanie Reid" was posted on a brass plate on the door, much like on Uncle Hotch's door to his office.

I leaned forward and opened the door. The room was kind of empty at the moment, but I would fix that soon enough.

"It's great. Thanks Uncle Hotch. I'll start moving in as soon as I can." I said.

"Another thing." he quickly said before I left. "I think it's time that you started calling me Aaron."

I smiled. This was gonna be a good year. I could already tell.
