"Be careful and call me when you get there." Spencer said, putting a strand of hair behind my ear.
Instead of going back to Virginia, I was going straight to New York like I told Uncle Aaron. There was no better time to go then after a case and before Christmas.
"Reiders, I'll be fine." I laughed. "Don't worry about me."
"Are you gonna tell your dad?" he asked.
"Of course. He needs to know at some point. This is his grandchild after all."
Spencer nodded and kissed my forehead.
"Come on Lover Boy. Your girl is gonna be fine." Derek called. "You're gonna miss the flight. Let's go."
Spencer looked me in the eye. His beautiful brown eyes made me melt.
"Call me." he said before giving me one last kiss. I picked up my carry on and headed to the terminal. I showed my ticket to the woman at the door.
"Have a good flight." she said with a smile. I returned the smile and boarded the plane. I pulled out my headphones and started listening to music as the plane took off. I watched Louisiana get smaller and smaller until we were fully in the air and on the way to New York.
I practiced what I was gonna say to my dad in my mind.
Dad, there's something I wanna tell you. I'm pregnant.
Yeah. That seems fine.
I had a mini nap before we landed. Once the plane was on the ground, they opened the doors and we exited the plane.
I seen my dad waiting for me. He smiled at me and I smiled back. It seems like forever since I last saw him.
"Hey sweetheart!" he said and hugged me. "How was your flight?"
"Good." I replied.
"It seems like forever since I last saw you. How's the married life?"
I laughed. Dad was talking more like a friend then a father seeing his daughter for the first time in months.
"It's fine dad. I'm glad to see you again." I said.
"I'm glad to see you again, too, honey."
We went to get my go bag and went to my dad's car. I was waiting for the right moment to tell him. I was so nervous.
"How's work?" he asked.
"It's...you know...work." I said, shrugging. "I mean, I catch serial killers. I'm not sure what to consider that."
"And Spencer?"
"He's fine."
"How come he didn't come to visit?"
"This was kind of a last minute decision for me." I admitted.
We drove in silence after that. It was early November and it was beginning to snow already. Soon, it would be Christmas and I'd be three months pregnant.
New York was so beautiful covered in snow. Winter was one of my favorite seasons for that reason. I leaned my head against the window and watched as the snow fell lightly on the ground.
"I see something hasn't changed." I heard dad say. I turned to see him smiling at me. I smiled back.
"I'll always love New York winters." I said. "I've missed them. It's so beautiful here during winter time."
"I'll never forget the time you made that snowman and put your uncles coat on it." he said, laughing at the memory. I laughed, too.
When I was young, about Jack's age, Uncle Aaron had came over to visit for Christmas. It had snowed a lot the day before and I decided to go out and make a snowman. I had gotten and old top hat and I found Uncle Aaron's coat and decided to put it in the snowman. It was soaking wet, but Uncle Aaron didn't get mad.
"We're here." dad said. I looked up to see we were at his house.
Dad got my bags out of the trunk and we went inside. I went up to my old room, where I'd be staying.
It wasn't changed much. There were still posters on the wall that I had put up when I was about 18 of the Beatles and MJ and New Kids On The Block. My old desk was there with pictures of dad and I and of Uncle Aaron and Aunt Haley with Jack. Even my old bed with my old sheets.
I put my bags on the floor and lied down on the bed. I sighed and remembered my childhood. The days when I'd be sick and stay in bed all day. On Christmas morning when I be the first one up and I'd open all my presents with dad. They were great memories.
"Welcome home."
I turned to look at dad and smiled.
"I can't believe you haven't changed this room yet." I said.
"Why would I change it? It's your room. I don't need any other rooms. Not many people stay over."
"I'm sure women stay over." I teased.
"Actually, I'm in a serious relationship. You'll probably meet her while you're here." he said. "Supper will be in a few."
"If you're making it, I'll pass."
Dad laughed and went to the kitchen. I closed my eyes and slowly drifted off to sleep.

*Flashback*
I had just finished packing my bags for collage. I looked around my room. It wouldn't be my room for much longer.
"Melanie?" came my dad's voice. "Hey there collage girl."
"Hey dad." I said.
"You ready to go? Your boyfriend is here to pick you up."
"I'm ready." I said. I turned back and looked at my room. Tears welled up in my eyes. "I'm gonna miss this place."
"I'm gonna miss you." dad said and hugged me. I let a few tears run down my cheeks before pulling away. I grabbed my bag and raced down the steps. My boyfriend, Justin, was standing at the door with a wide smile on his face.
"Hey you." he said and gave me a peck on the lips. "Ready to go?"
"Yeah. Um, can you take my bag out to the care? I wanna say one last goodbye before I go." I said and passed Justin my bag. "Love you."
"I love you too."
Justin took my bag and left. I turned to dad and gave him another hug.
"I'll miss you." I said. "I promise to call as much as I can."
"No partying."
"Can't promise anything."
Dad laughed and kissed my cheek. I turned and left. I got in the car and as Justin started it and was pulling out of the driveway, I looked up to see my dad in the window. I waved goodbye before we drove off and the house was out of sight.

"Melanie! Supper!" called my father. I blinked awake. I looked around my room. It took me a moment to remember where I was.
I got up and walked downstairs and into the kitchen. Dad put down a plate with meat and potatoes and carrot. I looked at him and raised an eyebrow.
"This looks good. Delivered?" I asked.
"Haha. You're so funny. No. I cooked it." he said. "Now either sit down and eat or you'll starve."
I chuckled and sat down. We said grace and began to eat. I was so hungry and I knew why. I was eating for two now. I needed to tell him. That's the whole reason I'm here. It's now or never.
"Dad," I started. "I have something to tell you."
"What is it sweetheart?" he asked.
"Well, um, I don't know how to say this."
Yes you do. Stop stalling.
"Dad, I'm pregnant."
Everything went silent. Dad looked at me with wide eyes. His fork fell from his hand and landed on the plate with a loud clank. I looked up at him, worried of what he was going to say.
"Are you serious?" he asked.
"Yes." I replied. "I'm very serious."
Dad's surprised look soon changed into a smiling face.
"Melanie, I'm so happy for you." he said. "I mean' you don't even look it. You mustn't be that far along."
"Nearly two months now." I replied. "I found out not too long ago. I've been meaning to tell you. I just wasn't sure when."
"I'm happy for you, Mel. You'll be a great mother."
"Thanks dad."
I leaned over and gave my father a hug.
