*Mel's POV*
Spencer and I sat on the plane. We were on our way to Vegas to see his father. Spencer looked tense. I took his hand in mine.
"You okay, Reiders?" I asked.
"Not really." he replied.
"Are you sure about this? We don't have to see him. I can go and tell him if you want."
"No, I wanna tell him, too." he took a deep breath before adding, "I'm just not sure about seeing him after so long."
"It's okay, Reiders. I'm here." I assured him. He smiled at me and kissed my hand. The plane took off. I leaned my head against Spencer's shoulder and slowly drifted to sleep, something I was in need of. Sleep doesn't come that easy during pregnancy.
I slept through most the plane ride and when the plane landed, Spencer and I got up to get off. I had called Mr. Reid to tell him we were on our way and he was coming to pick us up at the airport.
He was a fairly tall man. His hair wasn't as long as Spencer's. His face was long and he seemed a bit nervous when he seen us walk through the terminal. Spencer's grip on my hand tightened as we walked.
"It's okay." I whispered. "Don't be nervous."
"I'm not nervous." he mumbled. "I'm angry."
"Again, you don't have to do this." I said. "You can go see your mom and I'll talk to your dad."
"I wanna talk to him. Both of us can go see my mom then. She'll be happy to see you again."
I nodded. I trusted his decision. Mr. Reid gave Spencer and I a small smile as we walked up to him.
"Hello Mr. Reid." I said. "I'm Melanie. It's nice to meet you, sir."
"It's nice to meet you, too, Melanie. Please, call me William." he said and shook my hand. He turned to his son, who didn't look too happy. "Hello Spencer. It's been a long time."
"6 years to be exact." Spencer replied, cooly.
"It's nice to see you again. Is it possible that you've grown more?" William said.
"Actually, it's been proven that with age, you begin to shrink. So, it's not as much as I've grown, but you're getting shorter."
William chuckled and said, "So smart. He was always brainy."
"How would you know? You missed half my life."
"Spencer." I warned. He looked down at me and sighed. I turned back to William. "He is quite smart, sir, and it comes in handy with our job. Now, if you don't mind, Spencer and I would like to talk to you about our decision."
"Oh yes. Come. We'll go to my house." William said.
Spencer and I got our GoBags and followed William to his car. The ride was silent and awkward. William would ask Spencer something and he'd reply with one word and little emotion. I can't blame him for being mad. I'd probably be mad at my mom for leaving us.
We finally came up to William's house. Spencer got out and held the door for me, like the gentleman he was.
"How far along are you, Melanie?" William asked me.
"4 months." I replied, putting a hand over my bump.
"You're glowing." William said. "But, I bet a lot of people have told you that, huh?"
"Friends, family, total strangers, Spencer tells me almost every day." I said and smiled at my husband. He gave me a small smile back.
"Come in." William said as he unlocked the door. "We can talk in the living room. I'm gonna get some coffee you two want any?"
"No." Spencer replied.
"No thank you, sir." I said.
William smiled and went to the kitchen. Spencer and I sat in the living room. Spencer seemed upset. I took his hands and made him look at me.
"What's on your mind, brainyache?" I asked. He sighed.
"Do you think we made the right decision?" he asked me. "I feel like-"
"You think way too much, Spencer. Has anyone ever told you that?" I said. "Everyone deserves a second chance. If he lets you down again, you can change your mind and not allow him to see our child, but for now, he does have a right to at least meet the child."
Spencer nodded, but I could see he was still on the fence about it. I kissed his cheek and looked him in the eye.
"I promise this is the right decision." I said.
Just then, William entered again. He smiled at Spencer and I and sat down across from us. He took a sip of his coffee before placing it on the coffee table.
"So," he started. "how-uh-how long have you two been together?"
"Actually, dad, I'd like to get to the point so I can go see mom." Spencer said. I squeezed his hand to calm him down. I looked into his eyes and he nodded.
"Oh, yeah. That's fine." William said. "What's your decision?"
"We've decided," I started and looked at Spencer one last time, making sure he hadn't changed his mind. He nodded and I turned back to William. "that we do indeed want you to be apart of your grandchild's life."
William's face brightened with happiness.
"On one condition." Spencer continued. "You have to promise you'll actually be here for this child. You won't just up and leave like you did with me or you'll never see him or her again."
"I get it." William said. "I want to prove to you that I will be here. I want us to have the relationship we never had. I want to start over. I know I'm years late, but better late then never, right?"
"Right." I said. I looked at Spencer.
"Right." he muttered.
*A/N: just wondering if anyone noticed the Eminem reference in there. "...he was still on the fence..."? "Got them still on the fence..."? From Berzerk? No? Okay*
