"JJ?" I said. We were on the plane and on the way back to Virginia. JJ and I were sitting in the back, alone.
"Yeah?" she asked, looking up from her files.
"I was thinking about what you said early, about, you know, being," I looked around and leaned forward, lowering my voice. "pregnant."
"Yeah?"
"Well, I realized that I missed my period. I was supposed to have it two weeks ago." I continued. "When we land, would you come with me to get checked? If I'm not pregnant, I want to know what's wrong with me."
"Of course, honey." JJ said in her motherly voice. "I'll go with you."
"Thank you so much."
"Hey you two." Derek said, causing me to jump. I turned around to look at him. "Wanna play a game of cards?"
"No thanks." I said, shaking my head quickly.
"No thank you." JJ said.
Spencer looked at me from the couch.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine." I said.
"What are you to talking about?"
I looked at JJ, knowing that if I lied, they'd see right through it. When I was stressed, I was a bad liar. I was definitely stressed right now.
"Just...girl stuff." JJ replied. I looked back and nodded.
"Are you okay?" Spencer repeated. I looked in his brown eyes, full of concern. I hated lying to him. I wish I could tell him.
"I'm fine." I repeated, nodding. "For now."
He seemed skeptical, but he continued reading anyways. I sighed and leaned back on my chair. I need to know. Now.
The plane landed. I tried not to rush as I got off the plane, but I really wanted to know. I needed to know.
In the back of my mind, I wasn't sure if I was ready to be pregnant, but, if I wasn't pregnant, what else could it be?
JJ and I were walking to her SUV when Derek called out.
"Hey! We're going out for a few drinks. Wanna come?"
"I'm not feeling well." I replied, which wasn't technically a lie. "JJ's gonna bring me home, make sure I'm okay."
"I might come down later on. We'll see. I wanna see Henry first."
"Want me to come with you?" Spencer asked.
It hurt me to lie to him. I should be taking him with me to check this out. If I was pregnant, it was his baby after all. He should know when I know.
But I wasn't sure how he'd react. I wasn't sure if either of us were really ready to be parents. But we would be if we needed to.
"No. It's okay. I'll see you home." I replied, trying to put on a convincing smile. "I love you."
"I love you too."
I climbed into the SUV and sat back. My heart seemed to be racing faster every second. JJ climbed in and say next to me.
"Are you okay?" she asked. I nodded. "Nervous?"
"What if I'm not ready?" I asked. "What if Spencer doesn't even want this child, if I am pregnant."
"Don't worry. If you are pregnant, I'm here and your uncle and your dad. We'll all help you." she said, putting a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "And, Spence, he loves you. He'll love this child, too. It is a little piece of you and him, after all."
"Thanks JJ. You are the most amazing friend ever." I said, my voice soft.
JJ hugged me and started the SUV. We drove off the the doctors office. I couldn't believe I was actually about to go to check and see if I was carrying a child. Years ago, I didn't even believe I would actually be marrying someone, let alone having a child.
I watched the town go by, trying to forget what I was about to do. My heart was pounding uncontrollably. Finally, we pulled up to the doctors office. I let out a long sigh.
"Ready?" JJ asked.
I looked over at her.
"Yeah." I said, truthfully. "I'm ready."
We got out if the car and went into the office. The secretary looked up at us and smiled.
"Hello there. How may I help you?" she asked in a friendly voice.
"Hi. My name is Melanie Reid. I'm here to see Dr. Whitlock for a, uh, check up." I replied. "I don't have an appointment, but if he's free, that'd be amazing."
"He's with a patient now, but she should be done soon and then you can go in."
"Thank you so much."
JJ and I sat down. We waited. Every second that passed, every second I didn't know, I got more and more nervous.
Finally, Dr. Whitlock came out to the waiting area. He seen me and smiled.
"Melanie! Great to see you again." he said. "How's those injuries from, you know."
"Better, luckily." I said.
"Well, come on in."
I followed him to his little room. I sat down on the doctors table and JJ sat on a seat next to a desk.
"Who's this?" he asked.
"My friend, Jennifer." I said. "She works at the BAU with me."
They smile at each other and shook hands. Dr. Whitlock sat down on his chair and wheeled over to me.
"What seems to be wrong, Mrs. Reid?" he asked, professionally.
"Um," I looked over at JJ. She nodded. "Well, I've been getting sick lately and I've been having a bad stomach off and on a lot."
He nodded along.
"And, um, I missed my period."
Dr. Whitlock looked up quickly and smiled.
"So, let me guess. You believe you're pregnant and you came to get a check up to see."
I nodded quickly. He smiled and stood up.
"Well, if your friend doesn't mind waiting in the waiting room, I'll do a few tests and we'll see what happens."

I entered the waiting room. JJ was reading one of the magazines while she waited. Once she seen me, she stood up quickly.
"Well?" she asked.
"They'll have the results for me tomorrow." I replied. "But he says it's a big possibility."
JJ smiled and quickly hugged me.
"I hole you are, honey. I hope you are." she said.
"Me too." I admitted.
