A week went by quickly and Spencer was released from the hospital. He was still under apartment arrest and not aloud to go to work. Uncle Aaron let me stay home with him.

"Having withdrawals from work?" I asked him on his 10th day off.

"No. I'm enjoying this time off, actually." he said. I sat down next to him on the couch and snuggled into him. "It just means that you and I get to spend more time together."

"4 more days and then this is all over." I said. "I'm gonna miss it."

"Well, you're gonna get maternity leave when you give birth." he pointed out.

"Yeah, but it won't be silent then." I said, sitting up to look at him. "I'll have a little baby screeching for attention all day long. Ask JJ. She even said she didn't sleep the first few nights after she had Henry."

"You'll be fine. You're great with kids. I've seen you with Henry and Jack."

"And I've seen you with both of them, too. You're gonna be an amazing dad, Spencer. I can tell." I said. "And if this child gets anything from their dad, it'll probably be his brains."

"Actually, I don't think it's technically possible to pass on intelligence."

"Wow. Something Spencer Reid doesn't know." I teased. He chuckled and lightly hit me with one of the pillows on the couch. I acted hurt. "Ow! That hurt!"

Lucky for me, I'm a good actress. Spencer believed me and automatically believed that I was generally hurt.

"Oh my gosh. I'm sorry, Mel." he said. I smirked at him and hit him with a pillow. "I guess I deserved that."

On the 11th day, while I was getting dressed, I noticed my clothes were getting tight. One of the downsides of being pregnant. None of my old clothes were going to fit for a while.

"Remind me to ask Garcia and JJ to go shopping with me." I said to Spencer. "My clothes are tight."

"If you're going shopping, it'd be safer to go with just JJ. You know what Garcia is like while shopping." Spencer said. I laughed.

"That's true."

I sat down on the couch and looked at him. He was looking at some magazine.

"Whatcha looking at?" I asked, leaning over to see. He leaned away. "Oh, you're gonna be like that now, are you?"

"Yes." he said and kissed my head. "I can't tell you right now. But you'll find out soon."

"Um, okay." I said. "How are you feeling? Still sore?"

"No. I think I'm gonna be ready to go back to work." he said. "But I think I am gonna miss it. We never get a break on the FBI."

"If I wasn't on the FBI, I wanted to be an author." I admitted. "Believe it or not, it was Rossi that made me want to be one."

"Really?" Spencer asked.

"Yeah." I said. "I don't know what I was going to write about. I mean, Rossi wrote about being on the BAU. I never had any experiences like that."

"But now you have a lot to write about." he said. "Your first case, all that crap with...Justin-"

"Meeting you." I finished. I looked up at him. "If I became and author like I planned, I never would've met you. None of this would've happened. I think I took the right path."

Spencer smiled and gave me a quick peck on the lips. I reached over and grabbed the magazine out of his hand.

"Hey!" he said and tried to get it back.

"I'm a ninja." I joked and held the magazine away from him. I looked at the magazine and froze. "Is this a-?"

Spencer reached over and snatched the magazine out of my hand.

"You ruined the surprise." he mumbled.

"Spencer, are you looking at houses?" I asked. "Like, seriously looking at houses?"

"Yeah." he said. "I wanted to surprise you with a new house. I mean, this little apartment is fine for just you and me, but in a few more months, we're gonna have a little kid and we need a bigger house to raise him or her in."

I squealed and wrapped my arms around Spencer's neck. This took him by surprise and it took him a moment before he hugged me back.

I couldn't believe it! Spencer was buying us a house! This was so...well...not like him. This was not the Spencer Reid I first met. He has changed a lot in the past year and I'm glad I have him.

"Okay Mel. Please don't choke me."

"Sorry." I said and released Spencer from the hug. "I just can't believe you're looking at houses. I mean, you've lived here for so long. I thought saying goodbye would be a bit hard for you."

"Not really. I mean, I thought about moving out for years. It's kinda small. I guess this was the final little shove." he said. "I've actually got a house in mind. Here, look."
