I got home from teaching the class around 3:00. We didn't have work that day. It was a day off. Something David believed we needed.
When Erin Strauss, the previous Unit Chief, passed away, David was appointed as the new one. He still went in the field. He could never stop that.
As I walked through the door, Spencer looked up and smiled at me.
"Hey." he said. "How was teaching?"
"Good. I don't see why you don't like it." I teased. Spencer and I used to have social anxiety. We both got over it not long after starting to date each other.
"I don't mind it." he said. "But it's still a bit nerve wracking for me. I still get nervous."
I smiled and fell down onto the couch next to him. He wrapped his arms around me and quickly pulled me in for a kiss. I smiled.
"Welcome home." he said against my lips. I giggled and kissed him again.
I sat back and turned to the TV.
"Whatcha watching?" I asked.
"I don't know. Just a movie that's on. I'm not really paying attention." he replied.
I watched it for a bit, but lost interest fast. A million thoughts were running through my head. All of them were about the little bundle of joy in my stomach.
After teaching, I called Dr. Whitlock to get the details. I was about one month pregnant, meaning I was due in June some time. A summer baby.
I felt Spencer kiss my head. I looked up at him and smiled. He smile back, but he wasn't smiling for the same reason I was. I was smiling because I was looking at the father of my first child. Our child.
"What are you thing about?" he asked, kissing my nose.
"How do you know I'm thinking about something?"
"I've been married to you for 6 months, Mel. I know you. What's up?"
I had to tell him. I couldn't keep it inside anymore. I needed him to know. But how could I casually put it into a conversation without just coming out and saying it?
I looked around the apartment.
"Have you ever thought about getting a bigger house?" I asked.
Spencer gave me a weird look, raising one eyebrow.
"Uh, not really. Why?"
"Well, I was just thinking, if there was gonna be an addition to our family, we're gonna need a bigger house."
I smiled as Spencer quickly sat up, looking at me in surprise.
"An addition?" he asked, excitement filling his face.
"Remember the morning I got sick?" he nodded. I put a hand on my stomach. "This little guy. Or girl. It's hard to tell. I mean, he or she is only a month old."
Spencer laughed and quickly hugged me.
"You're pregnant!" he exclaimed, finally figuring it out. I laughed.
"Yeah. Yeah, Spencer. We're gonna be parents."
He laughed and pulled away from the hug and quickly kissed my cheek.
"When did you find out?"
"Well, today, technically. I got a check up when we got back from San Diego yesterday and I got the results today while I was teaching." my smile widened as I remembered getting the news. "Babe, I'm one month pregnant!"
"That's so amazing! I can't believe it!"
"Me either!"
We quickly hugged again. This was defiantly the best moment of my life, apart from the day we got married.
"Is that why you were acting weird on the jet?" Spencer asked.
"Yeah. I wasn't sure how to tell you or how you would react. I wasn't even sure I was pregnant or not. But now I know."
"We have the tell the rest of the team." he said. "You're not gonna be quitting the BAU, right?"
"No! God, Spencer! I've been through a whole lot worst then 9 months with a child inside me. I think I'll survive."
Spencer took my hands and looked into my eyes. I hated when he did that. It meant he was about to get serious about something that was stupid (well, stupid in my opinion).
"Be careful, okay?"
"Spencer, was I not kidnapped and tortured just 9 months ago? Did I not survive that? Don't be so worried. I'll be okay, alright? Nothings gonna happen to me or to this baby, okay?"
He smiled and nodded.
"Good. Now go get me something to eat. I'm hungry. I haven't eaten all day."
"Why can't you get it yourself?"
"Uh, hello? I'm pregnant."
He laughed and shook his head.
"That excuse is gonna get old fast." he said, getting up and heading to the kitchen.
"It's not an excuse if I am pregnant." I pointed out.
