Patrick walked home alone in the dark after a show, the cold December air cutting through his jacket. He stepped over the snow, his fedora being coated with white as more snow fell.
He sighed, a cloud of his breath floating into the sky. He hummed along to one of his favorite songs by Imagine Dragons, Demons.
"Don't get too close, it's dark inside." He sang to himself, more clouds forming around his face. All of the sudden the heavy snow stopped, but only over him.
He froze, turning around to see Pete standing there with an umbrella over their heads.
"Pete? What are you doing here?" He asked, a small smile on his face. Pete smiled back and handed Patrick the umbrella, staring at the snowflakes caught in Patrick's eyelashes.
"Whoa," He said softly. Patrick tilted his head to the side.
"What?" He asked as another snowflake drifted onto his nose. He sneezed, God, even his sneezes were adorable. Pete smiled and started walking Patrick home again, not answering his friend's question.
Patrick kept humming along to Demons, Pete not able to pick up on what it was.
"What you listening to?" Pete asked. Patrick looked at him and pulled out an earbud.
"Pardon?" Patrick asked. Pete stared at Patrick's blueish- brown eyes and almost got lost in them.
"Uhm, what you listening to?" Pete repeated. Patrick didn't say a word, but offered his earbud to Pete. Pete took it and placed it in his ear just as the chorus started.
Patrick kept humming, eventually singing quietly. As the third verse rounded about, Patrick didn't hold back, belting out the lyrics.
"They say it's what you make, I say it's up to fate. It's woven in my soul, I need to let you go. Your eyes, they shine so bright, I wanna save that light. I can't escape this now, unless you show me how," Patrick sang, his voice holding out on the last note and slamming it perfectly. Pete smiled to himself, seeing Patrick sing quieter again with his eyes closed, more snowflakes getting caught on his eyelashes.
The next song to come on was Loser Like Me from Glee, and Patrick's face lit up at the intro. He sang along, knowing that people can say what they're gonna say, but he's not gonna care.
"Just go ahead and hate on me and run your mouth, so everyone can hear." Patrick skipped forward a pace, the earbud flying out of Pete's ear. "Hit me with the worst you've got and knock me down, baby I don't care." Pete preferred this any day. "Keep it up and soon enough you'll figure out, you wanna be, you wanna be, a loser like me!" Patrick sang his heart out, holding an L up with his hand.
Pete laughed as Patrick handed him the umbrella and skipped through the snow. Pete closed it and linked it onto his bag, catching up to Patrick.
"Now I'm not thinking 'bout you haters," Patrick pulled of his fedora. "Cuz I could be a superstar," flicks the snow off of it, "I'll see you when you wash my car." places it back on his head.
The next ten minutes are just Patrick singing through the snow happily to all his favorite songs, Pete following close behind. After Loser Like Me, it was Red Lights by Tiësto and Sexyback by Justin Timberlake.
They arrived at Patrick's house before Sexyback ended, Patrick shimmying and waving his hips as they walked up to the door. Pete never took the smile off his face, for he couldn't with Patrick.
He stood on the porch and watched as Patrick danced to the ending of the song.
"Alright, bye, Trick." Pete said, kissing Patrick's cheek and walking away. He got down the porch steps and froze. Did he just....? He didn't dare look back, his body stiffening as Patrick came up behind him and kissed his neck.
Pete's smiled widened as Patrick slowly made his way up to Pete's lips, kissing him long and fully. He pulled away smiling, skipping back up to his door and walking inside.
Pete never stopped smiling that day.
