{hey guys, Jesus fuck it's been forever since I've updated this. But I'm gonna be putting a 3-4 part story up on this, because a) it's too short to be an actual book, in my opinion. And b) I have like 4 other stories I'm working on and this one doesn't have to be rushed as much. So, it may be about 3-4, maybe more if you guys want?? Idk. It's about merpeople. Bai now!}

Pete and his friend Joe were staying in a beach house for the summer, right next to the lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean. They were mainly here to swim and fish, and to just have a good summer. But one of their favorite things to do was try and prove the existence of something they loved the thought of.

Merpeople.

Last year they came out around October, and Joe said he saw a mermaid's tail and back. He did manage to snap a photo, which looks a bit like a Blue Marlin rather than a mermaid. But he kept it, because there is something about the tail that's not Blue Marlin type at all.

Pete had the strong feeling that this was the year they would finally find a real mermaid or merman, and all the conspiracies and sightings will be confirmed.

"You ready?" Joe asked, getting out his rod and sitting in the boat. Pete smiled at him.

"Let's fish, my friend!" He said excitedly, getting in the boat with Joe. Joe started up the almost soundless motor, and sat back down.

They waited until they were at a good and faraway spot, then stopped. They could barely see the lighthouse from there, but the water was nice and deep.

"Hey, Pete, look....!" Joe said, nudging Pete's arm and pointing in the water. Pete saw something shining in the water, seeming to be a pinkish-gold color.

"Good thing we brought our swimming gear, huh? And you said we wouldn't need it." Pete said, putting his mask on and sticking his hand in the water.

"Shut up. Is it warm enough?" Joe asked. Pete nodded.

"Yeah. It's the middle of summer in the middle of the ocean. Yes, it's warm enough, asshat." Pete said with a laugh, putting on his oxygen tank and putting in his mouth piece before diving in. Joe soon followed, swimming alongside Pete as they went toward the pinkish-gold shimmer they saw. Pete turned on his flashlight, and stopped dead as he saw a huge pearl and gold castle.

Joe looked at him, a smile on his face, but they both turned their heads as they saw something blue and tan flash by. Pete gasped as he looked down at one of the towers to see a small boy with brown hair and a light blue tail half-hiding behind it. The boy stared at them for a while, just flicking his tail to stay in place. Pete nudged Joe, who looked down to see the boy too.

The boy slowly swam closer, his bright blue eyes filled with fear and curiosity. Pete swam in place, staring in awe at the boy, who was now about 4 feet away from them. He flinched slightly as Pete put his hands up to show he wasn't a hostile predator to them. Joe did the same, and the boy began to swim around them slowly, examining them while still staying a few feet away.

Then he spoke.

"Patrick," the boy said softly. Pete and Joe looked at each other, then back at the boy. The boy put a hand on his pale chest, and said it again. "Patrick,"

Joe smiled at him, swimming up to the surface and pulling his mask up so he could talk. The boy- Patrick- looked at Pete, confused and scared. Pete gestured for him to follow, and slowly swam up to the surface, Patrick following.

Pete pulled his mask up as well, smiling as Patrick hesitantly poked his head above water. He looked around, noting that there was no one else around, then came up a bit more.

"Pete," Pete said, gesturing to himself, "Joe," then gesturing to Joe. Patrick nodded.

"Pete an'Joe." Patrick repeated, the fear he had shown before slowly disappearing. Pete smiled and nodded.

"Good...." Pete slowly extended his hand toward Patrick, who looked curiously at his tattoos, prodding them gently with his hand. "That tickles!" Pete said with a giggle. Patrick smiled softly and rested his hand on Pete's for less than 2 seconds before they heard a voice from underwater, and Patrick looked terrified before he bolted back underwater.
