People always suspected there was something between Pete and Patrick. The two never knew they were going to become a couple, but one night before a concert Pete was tuning his bass and he glanced up at the door as it swung open.
"Patrick? Hey, you okay?" Pete set down his bass and walked over to Patrick, who seemed really dizzy and kind of drunk. Patrick nodded, his breathing heavy.
"Dude, are you gonna be able to go on? Because we're up in 10." Andy asked as Pete cradled Patrick. Patrick just nodded again and sat down on the couch. His face was red and legs shaky, and he wasn't talking. Something was definitely wrong.
"Trick? Man, what's going on?" Pete asked in a hushed voice once Andy walked away. Patrick looked at Pete as he sat down next to him, his hazel eyes showing all pain and worry. Pete smiled slightly and set him arm on Patrick's shoulder.
"Talk to me, Trick." Patrick sighed and took a deep breath, then said something that Pete was not ready for at all.
"I haven't eaten in 5 days."
Pete's eyes widened, and he hugged Patrick tight, feeling his eyes swell up with tears.
"Patrick, Patrick no," Pete whined into Patrick's chest. Patrick hugged Pete back, and Pete could feel his arms weaker than usual. He broke down, crying against Patrick and hugging him tighter than ever. He could hear Patrick saying things to him softly.
"Pete, it's fine. I'll be okay."
"No, you're not okay." Pete looked Patrick dead in the eyes and said it again. "You're not okay! You haven't eaten in 5 days, that's not okay! Patrick.... Why?"
Patrick ducked his head, avoiding the question. "I'm fine, Pete."
"Why?"
Patrick knew he couldn't avoid it forever, but nonetheless tried. "It doesn't matter." He said timidly.
"Yes it does! Why haven't you eaten?" The pained look in Pete's eyes when Patrick looked up is what finally broke him. Patrick hugged Pete and cried into his shoulder.
"It's too much! It's just too much!"
Pete hushed Patrick down a little before asking lightly, "What? What happened?" Andy and Joe heard Patrick's sobs and questioned.
"Is he okay, Pete?"
"I just need to talk to him," Pete called back, taking Patrick into one of the changing rooms and sitting him down. "What's going on?" He asked, getting straight to the point.
Patrick rubbed his eye with his sweater sleeve, sniffling and shaking before asking, "Am I too fat for you guys?"
Pete stared at him in horror, shaking his head. "No! No, of course not! What would give you that idea?" He asked, hugging Patrick again. He felt Patrick hiccup in his breaths, implying he was crying again. Pete rubbed his back and took his hand, saying, "No. You're perfect. Who's saying you're too fat?"
Patrick looked up and said, "The anons, and the haters, and the pe- people on Twitter and Instagra-am, and-"
"Whoa, hey, calm down," Pete stopped him once he started to lose it again. "Hey, look at me." Pete took Patrick's chin and angled his head towards his own. "You're perfect as you are right now, don't you listen to those little fucks. Now, I'm gonna deal with this bullshit once we're done with tonight, and you aren't gonna let it get to you. Alright?" Patrick nodded and rubbed picked off his glasses to rub his eyes, then placing them back on the frame of his face.
Pete fixed his friend's fedora and put his jacket back on him, then hugged him once more before Joe knocked and said, "Guys, show time!"
