Chapter 45

Maaga ako sa West Hollywood restaurant kung saan sinamahan ako ni Ron. I introduced him to everyone and this time, I introduced him as my guy.

Tyrone was eyeing me meaningfully. "Chris and I broke up," paliwanag ko kay Tyrone nung kaming dalawa na lang and everyone's out of earshot.

"Okay, okay," sabi nya. "Not asking, but good to know."

"No overlaps Tyrone," paliwanag ko. "And Chris' got a thing going for him now. He's gonna have a child," sabi ko.

"Ooohh, go for moving on then," Tyrone said. "He a good guy?" he asked looking at Ron chatting up some Filipino waiters.

"Yeah he is. Couldn't ask for a better guy," sabi ko and smiled.

Ang saya, happy na talaga ako. And the fact na pwede ko syang ipagmalaki sa iba is a huge deal.

In the office, I tried Chris again pero I thought baka tulog so I left it. I texted him, and this time, longer: Hi Chris. Sorry I wasn't able to call you back kahapon. The line was very choppy. Anyways I was just wondering how you are. And how's Erin? Kumusta kayo? I wanted to explain my situation as well. Hope we can speak on the phone soon.

I was contemplating if I should include that I miss him in my text pero I decided against it in the end. 'Pag nabasa ni Ron yung text, baka magselos pa sya, mag-tampo pa sya ulit.

"Hey miss," bati ni Ron as he walked inside my office.

"Oh, have you finished charming everyone here in the restaurant?" tanong ko as he gave me a kiss.

"Charming? Hindi kaya, natural sa'kin ang connection ko with people. It's interesting ha, this restaurant business, matrabaho, nakakapagod pero sobrang rewarding. Tsaka kita mo kaagad yung return which is nice," he commented.

"Yes that's true. Planning to open up your own?" I asked.

"Yeah, para kay Nanay. Magaling kasing mag-luto yun eh," he said. "Halika na, 'di pa ba tayo uuwi? Seven na ah."

"Sige. Wait lang. I'll just send this email and we'll be off," sabi ko.

"Okay, I'll wait sa labas," sabi nya.

I tried phoning Chris again dahil, if I leave it till later baka mapansin na naman ni Ron at mag-tampo na naman ulit sya.

I knew it's early in the afternoon in the Philippines kaya imposibleng humaba hanggang hapon ang tulog nya, kung yun nga ang dahilan kung bakit di nya nasasagot ang tawag ko.

"Queen!" he shouted on the other line. "Queen ko! How are you?!"

My heart broke at the sound of his voice who seemed too happy to hear from me. He was almost in tears if not crying already. I've really missed my best friend who had been my partner for a long time. "How are you Chris? Buti sumagot ka. I've been trying you and-"

"I'm sorry Queen. I really am, for everything," he said interrupting me. "You don't deserve me, you don't deserve any of this, sana mapatawad mo 'ko. Magiging happy ako 'pag happy ka and I know this would only cause you pain. I would only cause you pain. I'm really sorry my Queen."

"Chris okay lang. I understand," I said in tears. I guess we're just not meant to be. I'm happy now with Ron pero sana maging happy na rin sya sa buhay nya. "How are you? Si Erin kumusta? Ang baby?"

"Everyone's mad at me Queen. I really miss you. I know I shouldn't talk to you dahil mas nahihirapan ako and I don't want to waste your time. I really should move on from us kahit ayoko, kahit mahal pa rin kita."
