Chapter 39

I felt so bad the next day. Nakakita ako ng missed calls and texts from Chris and some other late holiday greetings from friends.

I texted Chris: I just woke up. How was your flight? Call me later?

He called because he was my Knight. "Hi Queen! How are you?"

"I miss you Knight!" Chris I saw Ron.

"Awww. Sunduin kita dyan sa February," sabi nya.

Pinuntahan nya 'ko sa restaurant kahapon. "No need. Uuwi naman ako dyan," sabi ko. "Magkita na lang tayo dyan." Nag-dinner kami after.

"Basta. Susunduin kita dyan," he insisted.

I smiled. "I love you Knight." I closed my eyes. Hindi ko mahal si Ron. I promise.

"I love you more Queen," sabi nya. "Take care and always let me know what you're doing ha?" Gulp.

"Ah-kay," nasabi ko guilt enveloping me. I'll try.

"I'll call you again Queen. Love you."

"I love you Chris."

Nagwala pa 'ko sa kama ng walang sound bago ako bumangon.

Groggy akong pumasok sa trabaho. I had a burning desire to see Ron again and I was telling myself na hindi dapat, na mali.

Unfortunately or fortunately I had to go to our West Hollywood restaurant again dahil may birthday celebration sa pinakamalaking function room dun at aayusin namin ni Tyrone yun.

On my way to the restaurant, I missed my turn. Sh1t! Now I have to go back and figure out how to go back!

I called Tyrone. "Hey Ty, I missed my turn and now I'm kind of lost. I'll be later than usual," sabi ko.

"No worries. We're starting with the preps here. See you later," sabi nya.

The GPS helped me back. "Finally! A familiar road," nasabi ko when I got back a road that would take me back Santa Monica Boulevard.

Nangiti ako at the sight of Ron smiling pagkakita sa kotse ko. I waved at him. Naweirduhan ako sa sarili ko at that knee-jerk reaction. Bakit ako kumaway? Cheesy. Inirapan ko ang sarili ko.

"Nawala ka raw?" sabi nya agad pagkababang-pagkababa ko ng sasakyan. "Ako kasing pinag-iiisip mo?"

Ano daw? Did he say I was thinking of him that's why I got lost?

I missed my turn that's what happened. At, at, bakit nga ba nalimutan kong lumiko?

"What?" reak ko sa sinabi nya.

"Ang sabi ko, ano kasing pinag-iiisip mo?" ulit nya na parang edited na. He smiled knowingly.

"Ikaw ah, late na nga ako oh," sabi ko looking at my watch. "May party pa naman later. Maraming idedecorate."

"Tamang-tama palang wala akong gagawin today," sabi nya.

"Ron, scram. Hindi ka kailangan dito," pananaboy ko sa kanya.

"Uy wag ka namang ganyan. Customer mo kaya ako so I'm always right," sabi nya.

What? Natawa ako sa kanya.

"Chloe, Rich and Mandy are absent. We need to call in reinforcements from other restaurants," bungad agad sa'kin ni Tyrone.

"O mukhang pwede akong maging waiter today 'no Chloe?" sabi ni Ron.

Inirapan ko sya. Tumawag agad ako sa mga Managers, kay Caitlin sa Ocean Park Avenue restaurant at kay Inno sa Culver Rd restaurant. I asked for two waiters they could temporarily transfer pero both restaurants also had their hands full. I called our other on-call waiters and only one agreed.
