"So you'll assemble your warriors?" I asked casually as I watched Jeet stuff his face with food. I laughed a little, I figured when we were done talking I'd bring Ariadne some food, she must be hungry.
"Yeah" Jeet finally said, swallowing his mouthful of food. "Have you seen Max and Birdie?" I smiled at Phoenix's nickname, it was actually kinda cute. I shook my head though.
"Probably went to deal with some stuff, thank god they're willing to work together." I sighed, Jeet leaned back into his chair, rubbing his temple thoughtfully, "so, tell me about this Skitzo chick. Did you love her?" I asked, only realizing when it was too late that it was none of my business. Jeet looked blankly at me, his face straight, I couldn't read his emotions; he nodded.
"She uh, she was special to me" he coughed, the thickness in his throat disappearing "but when Scrotus' gave her more power, she helped them take over my territory, we had a nasty fight" he sighed, looking at the ceiling deep in thought, and I wondered if that was a memory I shouldn't have brought up.
"You still love her?" Jeet's hard eyes met mine, an angry look on his face now, but he said nothing, just looked out at the other survivors within the citadel. I left him alone, grabbing a bowl of food and heading upstairs.
I wandered into Ariadne's room, smiling to myself when I saw her sleeping. I set the bowl down, crouching next to the bed and moving the hair out of her face. She mumbled and moved over, opening one eye slowly and extending her arms out for me.
I crawled in next to her, wrapping my arms around her protectively and holding her close. She was getting kind of warm and I was worried about the night fevers coming back. I sighed, pushing that thought in the back of my mind as I looked into her lovely eyes.
"You sure you're feeling alright?" I asked her again, she nodded, not saying anything, and nuzzled her head into my chest, holding herself as close to me as possible. I felt my heart pound like it always did when she was around me.
She lifted herself off me for a second, reaching over to the small beside table and pressing play on that radio I gave her a while back. Classical music came out of the shitty speakers, but it was so calming regardless. She nuzzled back into me and I rubbed her back. We fell asleep to the beautiful music, not one of us having any nightmares tonight.
