Ariadne was pulling through the best she could, Jeet came back with some sort of medicine, it helped her with the pain a bit, but didn't do much, she'd get through it, I knew she would. I collected food for, downstairs for the both of us, I haven't left her side since I came back. I turned noticing Max and Phoenix talking, they weren't too bad anymore, Jeet was playing with Dog who had so much energy Jeet was breathing heavily, the dog was giving him a workout. I watched the little boy climb all over Max, on his arms, on his shoulders, hugging his leg, he wouldn't leave him alone, but Max didn't seem to mind. I filled some bowls for them and brought it to them.
"Oh Furiosa, you didn't have to" Phoenix smiled, handing a bowl to Max and Jeet and setting one down for Dog. She picked up the boy from Max's shoulders and sat him in her lap, giving him a spoon and he looked up at me, his big brown eyes so sweet and innocent. He ate slowly.
"You're not eating?" I looked at Phoenix who shook her head.
"Not hungry" Max looked over at her, letting out a grunt and he continued eating. The child smiled as Max made the noise but continued eating. Jeet scarfed down the food quickly, as he always did.
"BLONDIE!" He exclaimed, throwing his bowl in frustration "WHY ARE YOU OUT OF BED YOURE SICK!" He crossed his arms. Ariadne rolled her eyes, slowly sitting down at the table.
"I was gonna bring it up for you, love" I spoke quietly, she shook her head, I guess she wanted of get out of that room. I laid the bowl in front of her. Phoenix gave her a warm smile and the child stared at her, his big eyes widened as he clung onto Phoenix's arm.
"Hi" her voice was raspy and quiet as she spoke to the little boy, he covered his eyes a little bit peaked out through his fingers. "I'm Ariadne" she smiled again, holding out her hand to the little boy who reluctantly placed his tiny hand in hers and she shook it gently. He hid behind Phoenix again, taking small bites of the food in front of him.
"How are you feeling?" I asked, sliding in next to her and wrapping my arm around her. She sighed, eating slowly.
"Like shit" she groaned "but I'm sick of sitting in that room all day" she chuckled, but I understood, I ran my fingers through her hair and she leaned her head onto my shoulder.
"Just don't wear yourself out okay?" I kissed her head. Jeet laid his head on her shoulder for a bit, before his headache came and he screamed, holding his head and letting out a heartbreaking cry. It was getting worse. The child got scared when he yelled, jumping onto Max and clinging onto him for dear life. Max didn't really do anything, just let the child do what he wanted.
When Jeet's headache cooled down he looked at the boy. "Sorry, tiger, didn't mean to scare you" he chuckled, pulling out a little hand carved toy. "Here" he spoke gently, holding out the toy to the boy. He stared at Jeet before getting off Max and walking to him, taking it from him shyly. "Ah, uncle Jeet ain't gonna hurt ya" he smiled, making a silly face at the child who giggled a little and hugged him. Jeet's eyes widened, but he rubbed his back before the kid turned away, Dog right on his tail protecting him as they went to play somewhere.
"So" I sighed, kissing Ariadne's head again. "As for bullet farm, what do we know?"
"Max and I went to reduce threat in the local area... But when we were out, there was nothing, no war boys, no buzzards... The wasteland was empty" Phoenix spoke calm and stern, Max nodded as if to agree with her and pushed his empty bowl away from him. My eyebrows furrowed, that was weird, usually it was crawling with enemies.
"That's not right" Ariadne breathed, scratching her head slightly.
"Skitzo knows there's war coming" Jeet cleared his throat "she's recalled her men, putting them through heavy training"
"How do you know this?" Max spoke in his low rough voice, sounding menacing.
"I know her." Jeet growled, standing up and slamming his hands on the table "I don't think it's any of your business, mister hothead" Max stood and looked into his eyes, Jeet's hostility came out of nowhere. Max head snapped to the side like he heard something, probably the voices. He let out a low growl and walked away from Jeet's hard stare and into the garage, Phoenix kissed Ariadne on the head and followed him.
I sighed, watching Jeet clench his fists angrily and walk off, I wondered what that was all about. Ariadne looked up at me, a frown on her face. I passed her some water which she gulped down before leaning against me again, I brought her upstairs, laying her on her bed and cuddling into her as best as I could without getting her too overheated.
"I'm sorry I got sick" she coughed.
"Ariadne, don't be stupid" I laughed, twirling her hair in my fingers and rubbing her back. "I'm here to take care of you, we all are. Now get some rest" she smiled up at me, kissing me once again before drifting off.
