After breakfast Gerard and I went to the movies and he asked me to invite my mom. He loves my mom and it's been awhile since we've seen her. But the thing about my mom is, she's not exactly my mom.
---
"Invite your mom." He smiled. "I haven't seen her in so long." I nodded and looked at him. He seemed to be anticipating my answer. Well I'm not sure what exactly he was anticipating, he just had that look.
"Okay so Gerard. I need to tell you something about my mom." He rolled his eyes. "Is this another Frank?" He asks obviously annoyed.
I sighed and looked at the ground. "Gerard I'm sorry." I whispered.
He rolled his eyes again and I thought it was a bit excessive to roll your eyes twice in the period of two sentences. "Just tell me." He huffed.
"Gerard, my mom isn't my mom." I said and he a mixed look of confusion and anger and if you didn't know the context of what was happening you think I'd have been a stranger who just mugged while yelling "My cat."
"What could you possibly mean?" He asked sounding quite annoyed with the game I am currently playing. It's called 'Things I've never told you, that you deserved to know.' He knows now, I can tell, he knows that it's not just a simple I don't like your spaghetti, or I smoke pot. He knows this is a never ending process in which I tell the deepest darkest secrets I've kept. Fortunately we haven't gotten too dark yet and I assume when we do it will likely end in divorce.
"My mom. My birth mom put me up for adoption-" I started but was interrupted.
"Oh. So you're adopted, she's still your mom Frank." He said calmly.
I sighed and continued my story, "Well she almost put me up for adoption, when I was 16, because she grew to hate me and just left me at a bridge and I moved in with my friend. She was a little older than me, like four years and she told me to call her mom, so I did and I still do." I said and he started laughing.
"Come on Frank tell me the truth." He said once he was done laughing. "Gerard!" I yelled. "I am telling you the truth."
"O-oh. R-really? That happened?" He asked. I nodded. "I'm so sorry Frank, I-I thought you were kidding." I sighed. "It's fine. I'm sorry for not telling you." The realization that I'm going to have to do this 46 more times made me dread my existence. I didn't want to do this the FIRST time and all I was talking about was food. I haven't even gotten to the life changing secrets that maybe one or two other people know. That wasn't anybody I told, that was people directly involved in what happened.
When the dog walked in I had another secret to immediately tell him. "Oh um Gerard." I whispered knowing he was about to cry. "Yes Frankie?"
"Rover's not our dog. The real Rover died, so I had to replace him." My poor husband started crying, but at least it wasn't something I did, right? I mean it's okay this time, because I didn't do anything, but save him from the heartbreak of a dead pet.
"H-how did he die?" Gerard asked. "When?"
"It was about two years ago. A boy on a motorcycle killed him." I felt old calling some twenty year old a boy, but it's not exactly like I'm young.
"Okay." He whispered and stopped crying, at least somewhat. He was still sniffling a bit.
